Has the time come for the most unconventional of the Hathaway sisters to settle for an ordinary man—just to avoid spinsterhood?

Captain Christopher Phelan is a handsome, daring soldier who plans to marry Beatrix’s friend, the vivacious flirt Prudence Mercer, when he returns from fighting abroad. But, as he explains in his letters to Pru, life on the battlefield has darkened his soul—and it’s becoming clear that Christopher won’t come back as the same man. When Beatrix learns of Pru’s disappointment, she decides to help by concocting Pru’s letters to Christopher for her. Soon the correspondence between Beatrix and Christopher develops into something fulfilling and deep…and when Christopher comes home, he’s determined to claim the woman he loves. What began as Beatrix’s innocent deception has resulted in the agony of unfulfilled love—and a passion that can’t be denied...

A Groom of One's Own by Maya Rodale

Miss Harlow's Marriage In High Life
London, 1823

A handsome duke. His beautiful soon-to-be duchess. A whirlwind courtship. It is this author's privilege to report on the event all of London is talking about: the upcoming wedding of the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon to the only daughter of the Duke of Richmond. Every detail of the "Wedding of the Year" will be reported in these pages as a London Weekly exclusive.

But I, Miss Sophie Harlow, must confess to a secret infatuation with this "double duke" that can only lead to trouble. It is impossible that this notoriously upstanding gentleman would ever jilt his bride for a scandalous female newspaper writer. And yet . . . the arrival of a foreign prince, the discovery of a shocking secret, and one passionate kiss could change everything. Will this perfect duke risk the scandal of the year to marry the woman his heart desires?

Don't forget to answer the question above for your chance to read Maya Rodale's upcoming release, A Groom of One's Own, early!

as for my newspaper column, i'd write about the scandalous happenings (of course!) with all the juicy details. i'd call it "Juicy Scandals of the Most Scandalous."

  3. I'd love to win a copy of A Groom of One's Own.
If I had a newspaper column it would be called On Dits About Town.

  4. What a nice line up of releases, certainly looking forward to Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas. A Groom of One's Own sounds like a great read.

If I had a newspaper column I'd call it Marriage Tips for the Young At Heart.

  5. So many great books to look forward to. I would probably call my column Reflections of a City Girl.

  7. Oh boy another great month in bookland. I am anxiously awaiting some books I have on pre-order, Lisa Kleypas' Love in the Afternoon being one of them. Just can't wait to find out how that all ends.

Hmmm, my column would be Di's Take on Daily Life.

  8. This book looks like one I would enjoy, plus one I'd love to pass on to my girlfriends to enjoy (and so the book would take on a "life" of its own).

If I had my own column, I would think about an appropriate title for at least several days; however, due to time constraints here, I'll say LIFE WITH LANEY. It's the first (and only) thing that popped into my head after a great deal of thought.

Now I really must go seize the day. Thanks for making me think first thing in the morning, LOL!

  9. I'm looking forward to all of these. I haven't read contemps in a long while, but Susay Sey's book MH sounds good.

I send out a classroom newsletter once a month and I call it Hinshaw Happenings. I title my Christmas letter that, too. If I were a newspaper reporter in London during the 1800s, I might call my column Society's Scandals. :)

  10. So many more fun reads that I'm looking forward too! I think my column would be titled "Life Between Books" and cover the events and life that goes on when I'm not reading...and maybe some book recs too :)

  11. Hey Andrea - more great books to look forward to. I'm really excited about Maya's new book - do you know if this is part of a new series she's starting or is it a stand alone?

I also can't wait to read Love in the Afternoon - I just can't get enough of those Hathaways!

I had the great pleasure of reading an advanced copy of Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage - and let me tell you Jennifer Ahsley is fast becoming a go to author for me. It's a wonderful book that breaks your heart and puts it back together again. I fell in love with Isabella and Mac and all the Mackenzie brothers and can't wait for more.

Right now Maria and I are fighting over who will read Chains of Ice first - I'll let you know who wins.

If I was starting a newspaper column I guess I would call it "How to Run in High Heels".

  12. Oh my gosh, I'm so astonished to see my baby Money, Honey in the line up, I can't think what to call my fictional newspaper column. I'm all flustered. Thanks, ladies. You're the best.

Now, as for my newspaper column.
I'm a sucker for celebrity gossip, though, so that'd be my speciality. Maybe I'd call it Snarkolicious. Makes me sound like a gossipy dinosaur, doesn't it? :-)

  13. Hey, chelleyreads! Me, too! I loved Ian's story and have been dying for Mac and Isabella's. Love your column name!

Oooo, lucky you, Helen! So glad to hear you liked Loucinda's. :)

  14. Great name, Barbara E.!

You and me both, Armenia! I think I'm most excited for LK's. It will be a bittersweet read, I'm thinking. I'll miss those Hathaways!

Marisa, it is the start of a new series about "Girl Writers". It sounds soooooo good! I can't wait to get it.

So glad to hear that Mac and Isabella's book is terrific. Can't wait for it, too!

Love the name for your column. It's perfect for you!

  21. Right now Maria and I are fighting over who will read Chains of Ice first - I'll let you know who wins.

Fight hard, Marisa! It's worth it! It was a "one and done" read for me...then I read it again just for the pure pleasure! ;-)

  22. Oooh so many great books coming out!
I’ve been looking forward to Beatrix Hathaway’s story ever since Lisa Kleypas first started talking about her on SR. I read Maya Rodale's first book when it just came out. She has a wonderfully readable, charming “voice”. So I’m looking forward to her latest story too.

If I were a newspaper reporter I would call my column The Mother Wars. It would chronicle the relationship between women and their children. And the funny, strange, poignant, difficult things we women do as we battle to raise our children “right”. Can you believe? My verification word is t-r-u-c-e!?

  23. Right now Maria and I are fighting over who will read Chains of Ice first - I'll let you know who wins.

I concur with PJ, Marisa! It is sooo worth winning that fight! Loved, loved, loved it!!

  24. I'm definitely looking forward to the new Tessa Dare and Lisa Kleypas books. I read the first book in Tessa's new Stud Club series and loved it, so can't wait for Rhys and Julian's books-especially Julian! Can't wait for his and Lily's story. :)

While I'm looking forward to Beatrix's story, I will be sad to have the Hathaway series end. But I can't wait to see what Lisa's next historical will be, and am looking forward to her new Friday Harbor series.

I was lucky enough to read A Groom of One's Own early, and y'all are in for a treat! I absolutely loved it. I am already eagerly waiting for the next Writers Girls story.

As for what I would call my own column, it would probably be called How to Survive Law School. Having gone through the ordeal, I feel it is incumbent upon to to help out the next batch of law students, lol.

Andrea, as I already have an ARC of A Groom of One's One, feel free to leave me out of the drawing. :)

  25. I can't wait for "A groom of my own" and Lady Isabella's scandalous marriage. ^^ I have to admit that i'm more excited for Maya's book that Jennifer's. Mostly because the reviews i've heard of Jennifer's book hasn't been that great. I also like the storyline of Maya's better. ^^.... If only i had a job i would get both.

Now if i were a newspaper reporter i would call my column "The Highs and Lows of Society" and would write about just about anything. I would then say whether the subject of the said article would be a high or a low for society. ^^ It would be blunt and to the point. No niceties from me. ~o^

Hey, chey! Health News, huh? We could all use a bit of that!

That would also make a pretty good reality TV name, LSUReader!

  38. I've read Twice Tempted by a Rogue and loved it. The only problem I see with this list is choosing the order in which to read them.

If I were a columnist in a historical romance, I'd call my column "Lady Ondine's On Dits." If I were a columnist in a contemporary romance, I'd call my column "Tales and Tattles." If I were writing a column as myself, I'd call it "Just Janga"--and I did--sort of.:)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Umbrellas, goulashes, and life boats!

The column would cover all aspects of a woman's life: love, career, and family.
