Today's Special - - Maggie Robinson

It's our pleasure to welcome Maggie Robinson back to The Romance Dish.  You're always guaranteed sassy wit and sizzling sensuality when you pick up one of Maggie's books and her novella, "To Match a Thief," in the recently released anthology Improper Gentlemen is no exception.  I loved it!  (Read my review here.)   Maggie's next full-length novel, Mistress by Marriage will be released tomorrow (August 30th) and promises more of the same.  Here's Maggie to tell you more about the third book in her Courtesan Court series, Mistress by Marriage!

Thanks so much for having me back! I’m excited to talk about Mistress by Marriage, the last “Mistress” book in the Courtesan Court series, which comes out tomorrow. They all take place on Jane Street, my fictional mistress row in London. I get a kick that people actually Google “Jane Street” now looking for it on a map. It’s only in my head, and you’d get lost for sure in there. ;)

But wait…there’s one more book in the series, but it’s a “Master” book, Master of Sin, and Jane Street is traded in for a wild island in the Outer Hebrides. I hope I get invited back next April to talk about it, (PJ popping in to tell Maggie she's always welcome here!) but if you want to get a sneak peek, I’ve posted the cover and the back cover copy on my blog at www.maggierobinson.net

Now, where was I? Oh, yes. Edward and Caroline’s story. Edward’s all ice, and Caro’s all fire. They’re completely unsuited to each other. They should never have gotten married, but Edward did the first and only impulsive thing he’d ever done in his life and asked her to marry him. He suffered from a coup de foudre, that fabulous French phrase that indicates thunderbolts of desire. And Caro says yes, because she’s desperate. Once they wed, she’s desperately unhappy. By the time Mistress by Marriage starts, they’ve been separated for five years and Edward wants a divorce.

Well, I couldn’t have that. The book would have been over by page 20. I had to throw them back together somehow. Here’s the back cover blurb:

Too late for cold feet

Baron Edward Christie prided himself on his reputation for even temperament and reserve. That was before he met Caroline Parker. Wedding a scandalous beauty by special license days after they met did not inspire respect for his sangfroid. Moving her to a notorious lovebirds’ nest as punishment for her flighty nature was perhaps also a blow. And of course talk has gotten out of his irresistible clandestine visits. Christie must put his wife aside—if only he can get her out of his blood first.

Too hot to refuse

Caroline Parker was prepared to hear the worst: that her husband had determined to divorce her, spare them both the torture of passion they can neither tame nor escape. But his plan is more wicked than any she’s ever heard. Life as his wife is suffocating. But she cannot resist becoming her own husband’s mistress…

Edward comes up with a brilliant idea. Not. He thinks if he gives Caro a list to follow, she’ll become a suitable, dutiful wife. Caro, as you might expect, has other ideas.

Are you a list-maker like Edward or impulsive like Caro? What would be on your list to assure a happy marriage? One commenter will get a signed copy of Mistress by Marriage! And for another chance at a book, today is “Mistress Monday” on Twitter. Just add the hashtag #MistressMonday to a tweet for a chance to win.

Thanks for visiting with us today, Maggie.  I can't wait to find out Caro's response to that list!

  1. I'm more of a list maker than impulsive. I think being honest with each other and compromise would be on my list for a happy marriage.

  3. I make lists about lists.

My marriage list would probably only contain word - RESPECT.

  4. Congrats on your new release!

I'm not impulsive but I also don't make lists, unless the one in my head counts. :)

  5. Maggie, congrats on the release of your new book. Since the first time i read the except of this book and its reviews, its gone on my must read, if you miss it you'll regret it list.

As for whether i'm a list maker or not, i'm not. I like to do things as and when the situation dictates it. Not exactly impulsive but not a list maker either.

  8. I try to be organised and make lists but then I tend to forget the lists and end up having to wing things anyway.

    For marriage, I'd have to agree with previous commenters;

    Love (of course)
    Trust
    Honesty
    Mutual respect

  9. Just a quick pop in. We have no power and my fat fingers don't work on my cellphone well. I'd need electricity on my list today. My husband is a bear without power.I may have to send him to a hotel to avoid divorce. Thanks so much for having me here. I'll try to follow the conversation before my phone dies.

  11. Hello Maggie and congratulations on your release! I hope the power cut isn't because of the hurricane. If so, take care. :)

As for your question, I think I'm a bit of both. Sometimes I make lists, but I have no problem going without one at other times.

  12. Definitely a list maker...If I wrote a list for a happy marriage, it would include sharing a laugh or three every day and affection (hugs, touches, kisses)as often as possible.
I want to hear how your characters resolve their problems. It sounds fascinating.

  13. I'll admit that I'm a mix of a list maker and impulsive when it comes to romance...I tend to make a list but throw it out...lol..two thing I do insist on though are honest and complete communication and fidelity so I can trust - with that...pretty much everything else is negotiable.

  14. Maggie, you and John and all the family stay safe.

Congrats on another book release! My favorite trope is reunited lovers, so this one sounds particularly great.

I'm definitely a listmaker, although I sometimes lose the lists. :)

  16. Hmmmm.. I guess I am more the impulsive type. I married my husband 23 1/2 years ago after knowing him less than four months; and we were separated by nearly 2000 miles during most of that time. And for a happy marriage, we try never to go to bed angry. Laurel

  17. I can't say I am impulsive, I am more of a procrastinator. The only list I make are grocery list and if I don't do that I forget what I am going after.

  18. I'm a huge list maker and like to have "my ducks in a row." Organization at home and at the office is so necessary to keep things flowing as they should. In today's busy world, I'm a firm believer in thinking ahead and anticipating and preparing for what comes next. However, and that's a BIG however, I also love to simply "veg" with a wonderful book and forget about responsibilities. Your book, "Mistress by Marriage" sounds like my kind of read and I can't wait to be holding it during my next "veg" session!

  20. Hi Maggie,

I'm definitely a "list maker" as, I have to many senior moments now. I forget what I did yesterday but, still remember things from years ago. LOL

Today, it's my 41 year wedding anniversary. We've managed to get this far by having lots of love, respect, trust and support for each other.

    Congratulations on your new release.

  21. I'm definitly a list maker. Here's some of my categories: To-Do, To-Read, To-Watch, To-Buy (Groceries, Hardware store), To-Fix, To-Sew, To-Find. Another time I make lists is when I have company for dinner - I make a list of what we are eating because I always forget to put something out (most oftern the rolls). I read & enjoyed Mistress by Marriage & will enjoy the rest of the series.

  22. oops - I meant I read Mistress at Midnight & want to read the rest of the series

  24. I'm a list-maker as I do like a bit of order in my life. However, I do have my impulsive moments and these can be pretty fun.

  25. My husband and use to be more impulsive. We would decide to go to the beach or to the snow on a whim regardless of if it would take 30 minutes or a few hours to get there.. After children, I discovered making lists was essential in order to get everything done.
Can't wait for the Missress By Marriage. I love all of the books in the series.

  26. I am more of a list maker, but then I usually don't follow the list. LOL In work situations, I do like a list, to make sure I don't forget something. In my personal life, I make lists but then I also act impulsively at times.

  28. Maggie, Congratulations on the release of Mistress by Marriage and I was thrilled to learn about the up-coming Masters series!

I'm definately a list maker - of the next books I want to read. Besides that about the only list I make is before I go grocery shopping! Guess which list is more important? Other than two things that are "list important" I believe in winging it!

  29. Hi, Maggie! Welcome back and congrats on your new release! It sounds delicious. :)

I'm with marybelle--I make lists about lists! LOL! I am a big planner, so lists are my best friend.

  30. Hi all! Sorry I wasn't able to be around today.

Maggie, hope your power is restored soon!

  31. congrats on the latest release & reviews :) I tend to make list/plans but not always, and I'm not always good about following them when I do. I guess they help me organize my thoughts, then I just go off and do what ever ;)

  32. I'm a list maker too. Occasionally, I can be impulsive but more often than not I think things through and yes, make lists. The only problem as I get older is remembering where I put the lists! lol!

  33. Hi, Maggie. Welcome back! Congrats on your latest release. :-)

If I don't make lists, things just don't get done.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am a definite list maker. I need one, or many as the case may be. I have several Master Lists for different things - house renovation, landscaping, club activities, etc - around here somewhere. I make little lists for everything. What I have to do today, errands that need to be run, shopping lists. Right now I am starting my master list for the trip we are taking the end of September. I have a tub I put things that must go, but there is a lot of last minute packing that has to be done and the list is a necessity for that.

Sorry you are having power issues from Irene. My sister in VA has none and probably won't for a week or so. They do have a generator, so it isn't too bad. My brother in CT is in the same boat. He lives on the coast but didn't take any real damage. The house down the street was cut in half by a tree. He doesn't have a generator so they are camping out at home. Their daughter got her power back this afternoon, so they are making a run to her house, if the roads are clear, with their freezer stuff. Hope you get power soon. Buy your DH a generator for Christmas, then next time he can still watch TV and things will be more normal.

I hope the release of MISTRESS BY MARRIAGE is a big success.

  35. Forgot to say what I would have on the list to assure a happy marriage. Make sure I have all the things he needs and needs to do listed. If he forgets anything he'll be upset. I don't want him upset with himself. I'll even add things for him he won't think of but will want. I think I'll be putting a generator on his list so we have one before the next storm. We haven't had a prolonged power outage in about 10 years, but with the way the weather has been, who knows.

  36. Big time list maker, but then I can never remember where I out the list! All the best Maggie for your release!

  37. I wish I were more impulsive and spontaneous but I'm definitely a list maker.
Good luck with your new release and I can't wait reading it!

  38. I have to say that I'm a little bit of both. I make lists when I have to really get things done in a hurry. When time is not so short, I tend to keep a more go with the flow attitude. I still get things done, but more of the fun stuff and not so much of the "will still be here to do later."
