WHEN A MASKED MAN…

Twenty years ago Maximus Batten witnessed the brutal murders of his parents. Now the autocratic Duke of Wakefield, he spends his days ruling Parliament. But by night, disguised as the Ghost of St. Giles, he prowls the grim alleys of St. Giles, ever on the hunt for the murderer. One night he finds a fiery woman who meets him toe-to-toe-and won't back down . . .

MEETS HIS MATCH…

Artemis Greaves toils as a lady's companion, but hiding beneath the plain brown serge of her dress is the heart of a huntress. When the Ghost of St. Giles rescues her from footpads, she recognizes a kindred spirit-and is intrigued. She's even more intrigued when she realizes who exactly the notorious Ghost is by day . . .

DESIRE IGNITES A DANGEROUS PASSION

Artemis makes a bold move: she demands that Maximus use his influence to free her imprisoned brother-or she will expose him as the Ghost. But blackmailing a powerful duke isn't without risks. Now that she has the tiger by the tail, can she withstand his ire-or the temptation of his embrace?

Many of you know that I am a huge fan of Elizabeth Hoyt’s books as evidenced from my reviews of several of her previous books: Wicked Intentions, Scandalous Desires, Thief of Shadows, and Lord of Darkness. Duke of Midnight is another gem in Hoyt’s crown. Maximus and Artemis are dynamic characters who grabbed me right from the start and held my attention and affection until the very end. Add that to the rich setting, intricate plot, and paired with essential secondary characters, and you’ve got another keeper from Hoyt. I highly recommend Duke of Midnight

  2. I can't pick one favorite of Elizabeth Hoyt. I'd read the woman's grocery lists. Though I really do adore this series...and was jazzed ever since we met Lord Caire (Lucius Malfoy anyone?) and then Silence and the pirate...*sighs* Great stuff.

    1. MsHellion, I couldn't agree more--both about Hoyt's books and Caire reminding me of Lucius! And I love Scandalous Desires. :)

  6. I am going to say Thief of Shadows because it's the last one I read and fresh in my mind. I enjoy her books and need to catch up on a few.

  7. Everything she's written is on my keeper shelves. I loved To Beguile a Beast but I don't know if I could pick one favorite. They're all so good. I started reading Duke of Midnight yesterday evening and finally stopped around 2am when I kept falling asleep over my Kindle. As soon as the dogs were walked and fed this morning, I picked it back up and lost myself in the rest of the story. It's brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I am in awe of the pictures Hoyt paints with her command of language. Consider this passage:

"Do you remember that morning?" he asked, his voice impossibly deep. "You emerged from the pond like a goddess triumphant. You'd flaunted your ankles the day before" - he brushed warm fingers over her left ankle, making her shiver - "but that morning I saw the tender curve of your inner thigh, the sweet bend of your knee, the shy sweep of your calf. You revealed them as coyly as a siren singing a man to his ecstatic death - and you didn't even know it, did you?"

Now I want to go read the whole book all over again!

  11. I have enjoyed the entire Maiden Lane Series and really don't think I could say I liked one more than another. Each book in the series just keeps you wanting more. Ms. Hoyt is a wonderful story teller.

  13. My fave book by Ms. Hoyt was her first in the Maiden Lane series--Wicked Intentions. The names of the heroine (Temperance) and the hero (Lazarus) were perfect for their personalities and drew my interest right away. The innocent heroine with her secret desires and the "bad boy" who was also lonely made for an ideal couple. But really, all of Ms. Hoyt's books are wonderful. Thanks for asking! jdh2690@gmail.com

  15. I adore Elizabeth Hoyt books! I always have her books on preorder months ahead of time!
Its tough to pick a favorite, but I can narrow it down to 2 :) To Beguile a beast and to desire a devil.
My favorite part in To desire a Devil is where Reynaud punches Jasper in the nose, I've read the book a dozen time and I still giggle w/e I reread that part :)

  20. I have read this entire series and have been waiting impatiently for DUKE OF MIDNIGHT. I have a feeling Maximus and Artemis are going to be my favorite couple of the series. They seem a bit more complex and deep as both individuals and a couple than the others. I am looking forward to reading it.
