Happy 4th of July!

Wishing all you Americans out there a very safe and happy Independence Day!

How are you celebrating today?

Will there be fireworks?

Do you have hot dogs and burgers ready for the grill or is your menu more diverse?

What's your favorite 4th of July dessert? I have a big ole watermelon in my sights!

For those of you not living in the U.S., how do you celebrate your country's independence holiday?

I have a package of books* for one person who leaves a comment before 11:00 PM (EST) July 4, 2016.

*If random.org chooses a comment from a person who lives outside the U.S., instead of the package of books (sorry, but postal costs are outrageous), I'll send you a Kindle copy of Chasing the Heiress by Rachael Miles. I'm really enjoying this new historical romance author!

  1. We are a small family now so it's a small barbecue. In a different year it would have been reading under an umbrella in the gorgeous backyard, this year it's homework homework homework for my grad degree in education. The good news is I get to read great books about writing and new YA books I hadn't known about . Have a wonderful Fourth everyone!

  5. Happy Independence Day, PJ!! I started the day wishing my sister a Happy Birthday. I've got a load of housework and errands (thank goodness my grocery store is open today). But then the fun can begin. We're going to friends' house where there will be slow smoked brisket and a ton of non meat options including the queso and chips we will be bringing. They have prime fireworks viewing in their front yard, so we will get an excellent show there!

  7. we had hot dogs for lunch. it's raining now; they may have to postpone the fireworks for tonight. I assume the parade is going on since it's not a complete downpour of rain, yet.

    1. This morning's weather forecast called for late afternoon rain but so far it hasn't showed up. Hoping that lasts through the fireworks!

  10. Not a good day for me at all. My oldest cat passed away today and I will forever remember the 4th of July. So no celebrations here :( Reading and sleep seem to be the only things that help.

    1. Oh, I am so sorry. I lost my sweet dog on New Year's Day a few years ago and it has forever colored my feelings about that holiday. Sending you warm hugs.

  12. didn't do much today, but I did have the traditional hot dogs, potato salad & baked beans for dinner. It's not even dark yet but I've heard a few fireworks being set off - hopefully the rain will hold off until later.

  14. You have to have a BBQ on Australia Day. I think it's practically a law.

  15. It's finally cooled down a bit here so we're spending the day by the pool and relaxing outside. Dinner was a graze from the refrigerator because we still have leftovers from the weekend!

  16. We spent the day working an Honor Flight tent at the city's 4th of July celebration. We normally go to our daughter's in a neighboring state and have a cook out. Didn't happen this year and I missed it. The event we attended was nice. There were different bands playing most of the afternoon into the evening. They had a ceremony just before the fireworks honoring the Vietnam Veterans. My husband was one of the 10 or so veterans honored and they all received a nice framed proclamation and a 50th anniversary pin. We had Bar-B-Q for dinner at the event.
