There are plenty of things Garrett Granger hadn't counted on losing—his child to miscarriage, his wife to another man and the family business thanks to a crooked CFO. He also hadn't counted on moving back to the family ranch, where he's met by another surprise—former flame Nicky Marlow, who is renting his grandmother's old house.
Nicky's been rebuilding her shattered life since her husband's death two years ago. But Garrett's timely arrival in Wrangler's Creek doesn't automatically make him the missing piece of the puzzle. Even if he does seem to adore her two-year-old daughter… Even if seeing him again stirs up old feelings Nicky would gladly keep buried, forcing her to wonder if moving forward has to mean leaving everything behind…

Delores Fossen has become one of my go-to contemporary western romance authors. In No Getting Over a Cowboy, she returns to Wrangler's Creek and the Granger ranch for oldest brother, Garrett's story. As with the previous book (Those Texas Nights: Sophie and Clay's story), this one is filled with Fossen's signature humor, heartwarming romance, family conflict, and a couple mystery threads with plenty of twists and turns.

Garrett and Nicky have a history that did not end well. They haven't seen each other since high school...until Garrett discovers his mother has leased an old deserted family farmhouse on their property to Nicky and her band of not-so-merry widows. Well, one of them is merry (very merry) but the rest, not so much. Garrett needs the property surrounding the house to expand the pond for the new cattle he's purchased. Nicky isn't about to let that happen. And that's just the beginning of their issues. But there's a hint of a spark that still kindles between them and when events continue to throw them together it just may erupt into a roaring fire. Garrett, though, is still dealing with the very public fallout of the failure of his marriage as well as a devastating loss and Nicky has secrets that could douse the flames for good. Will a second chance give them the happy ending they both so richly deserve or will outside forces succeed in keeping them apart?

Garrett and Nicky together have a whole herd of emotional baggage but Fossen balances the emotional conflict nicely with offsetting humor and their blossoming second-chance romance. She gives the emotional depth its due without allowing it to become overwhelming. They are likeable characters who have had their share of heartache. I pulled for their happy ending the entire way.

While Nicky and Garrett are the primary focus of this book, Fossen surrounds them with a lively group of secondary characters that keep the story flowing and our hero and heroine on their toes. There's Garrett's meddling mother, his too-sexy-for-his-own-good younger brother, his cheating ex-wife, an unidentified skeleton in the closet, Nicky's eclectic group of widows (there are some real characters in this bunch), and an adorable little girl who steals everyone's hearts, especially a grumpy, grieving cowboy's.

I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns, laugh-out-loud humor, smoldering sizzle, and sweet romance of No Getting Over a Cowboy. I can't wait to see what Delores Fossen brings us next. I sure hope it's Roman Granger's story. I have a feeling that one is going to be one heck of a ride!

    1. I just discovered her last year, Maria and I've enjoyed every book by her that I've read so far. I recommend both her McCord Brothers series and the Wrangler's Creek series. No Getting Over a Cowboy stands well on its own but is even better if you read Those Texas Nights first. I've only read the final book in her Lawmen of Silver Creek series but I enjoyed it immensely. It's more heavily weighted on suspense than the other series.

  4. Contemporary Westerns and historical Western Romances give me great enjoyment since they provide me with a profound story which resonates with me. It is a requirement when faced with the difficulties in today's modern world and they give me hope.

    1. Hope is such a big word for one that holds so few letters. It's one of the main reasons I enjoy romance.

  5. I do enjoy contemporary westerns. Living in my part of Texas I run across my fair share of cowboys - they have a different mentality than guys raised in the city. I will never forget an exchange with a gentleman only a few years older than me. I had beat him to the door and was holding it open to be polite. After a bit of good humored back and forth he do finally said: "You don't want my mamma and granny rolling in their graves because I'm not treating a lady right do you?" The thing is, I know he and other cowboys are raised with that attitude that he was only halfway kidding.

  6. I enjoy all of the above but have not yet read a book by Ms Fossen. I live in Texas. And though I was not fortunate in my choices, I always thought it would be wonderful to have a cowboy in my life. First of all, just the way they dress is enough to make me melt. There is something about a pair of Wranglers and a Stetson. I mean look at George Strait.

  12. She is one of my favorite Intrigue authors. I enjoy the Intrigue line because yes, I do like a bit of mystery, action and adventure in the romances I read. Most of the Harlequin Intrigues I read are set in the West. I love the open land, the way of life, and the ethic of the cowboy and people who Iive out there.

  13. YAY! I love the title, I love the cover, and I'm not sure what it is about cowboys...perhaps because when I hear the word "cowboy", I associate it with the word "honorable" (which I'm sure the argument can be made that's not necessarily true. *LOL*) The West, Cowboys, the Code...so while a handsome horse-riding, denim-wearing guy may be the strong-silent type or the gregarious flirty ranch-hand, at the core we think this is a man who is honorable, humble, and hard-working, just by the nature of his job title. And that H-Trifecta is sexy in any era. Can't wait to give this one a read.
