I love Christmas movies and what better than a movie based on a novel by one of my favorite romance writers! Christmas with Holly, a Hallmark Hall of Fame original movie will be televised on ABC tonight at 9pm ET/8pm Central. (Check your local listings for time and channel) Based on the 2010 Lisa Kleypas novel, Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor, the book tells the story of a man (Mark) struggling to raise his orphaned niece, a woman (Maggie) recovering from the loss of her husband and Holly, a little girl whose world has been torn apart by the death of her mother. These three are all due a little magic in their lives. Who better than Lisa Kleypas and Hallmark to bring them that magic in what promises to be a charming, feel-good holiday movie.
Find out more about Christmas with Holly here and more about the book on which it's based here. And, if you like the movie, check out the next two books (Mark's brothers' stories) in Lisa Kleypas's Friday Harbor series: Rainshadow Road and Dream Lake. Read PJ's review of Rainshadow Road here.
I know where I'll be tonight. Will you be watching? Are you, like me, hoping for Hallmark movies of the next two books in the Friday Harbor series? Any thoughts on who you would cast in the roles?
What other romance novels would you like to see made into television movies?
Because it's the season and I love giving away gifts, I have two copies of Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor and one copy of Rainshadow Road to give away today. I'll randomly choose three winners from people leaving comments on today's blog!
Disclaimer: I am one of "Lisa's Divas" - a group of select fans who share info and content related to Lisa's novels and get sneak peeks and swag. However, every review that I write, whether I purchase the book or receive an advance copy from the author or publisher, reflects my unbiased opinion.

Sadly I will not be able to watch that movie. But it sounds wonderful. I have a weakness for Christmas mvies and some of them I've seen more than once, twice or... Well I just love the heartwarming stories and beautiful decorations, it really puts you in the holiday mood :D
ReplyDeleteI agree! Christmas movies always put me in the holiday mood. Maybe Hallmark will release the movie in video and you'll be able to watch it then?
DeleteI always enjoy the magic of Christmas movies. It's the feel good quality.

DeleteYes! Exactly! :)
ŴŎőŵ ∞٩(̾♥o♥)۶ I will watching this movie ;)
ReplyDeleteHallmark always does such a wonderful job. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie and so happy ABC decided to air it as my television provider doesn't carry the Hallmark Channel.
DeleteI have enjoyed several of Lisa's books. Unfortunately I have not read any of the Friday Harbor series.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see any of Jill Shalvis's series put into a movie format. Animal Attraction, Animal Magnatism or the Instant series are the ones I read the most recently. She's so prolific and hilarious!
Laurie, watching Christmas with Holly will be the perfect way to introduce the series.
DeleteI agree with you on the Jill Shalvis books. They'd be great in movie form!
How can you possibly go wrong with a Lisa Kleypas book?
ReplyDeleteHow can you possibly go wrong with a Lisa Kleypas book?
DeleteHow, indeed? As far as I'm concerned, you can't! :)
As much as Hallmark rewrites, the story could bear no resemblance to the original. See my comment below.
DeleteI loved Lisa's Hathaway Family, Married by morning and Tempt me at twilight. Her books are romantic , always full of love and passion. Thank you so much for the nice giveaway! I would love reading Rainshadow Road.
ReplyDeleteI'm a great fan of the Hathaway's too, Nicole.
DeleteRainshadow Road is special. I've re-read it more than once and imagine I'll continue to re-visit it again and again.
I'd love to see any of Emily March's Eternity Springs books made into a Hallmark movie. I think they'd be a perfect fit with the Hallmark brand and I would so enjoy seeing them brought to life on the screen.
ReplyDeletelisa kleypas is one of my favorite historical authors. i haven't read her contemporaries yet, but i have it on my TBR pile.
ReplyDeleteYou have a treat ahead of you, sienny. Her contemporaries are wonderful!
DeleteThe movie sounds wonderful and I plan to watch it. A book that I would like to see in movie format is The Time In Between. Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteI think that would make a wonderful movie!
DeleteOh, I have Christmas Eve and Friday Harbor but I'm afraid I don't have any of the others in this series - I am always playing catch up lol.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend Rainshadow Road and Dream Lake!
DeleteI play catch up a lot too. A lot! ;-)
These books sound special. I would like to see any of Kristin Hannah's books made into a movie.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of Kristin Hannah's books.
DeleteI'll be watching! It is Lisa Kleypas and Hallmark...it *has* to be good! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is Lisa Kleypas and Hallmark...it *has* to be good!
DeleteI agree!
Lisa is one of my favorite authors and I definitely will be watching. I'd love to see Smooth Talking Stranger made into a movie.
ReplyDeleteSmooth Talking Stranger would be a great movie! Who would you cast as Jack? Any thoughts?
DeleteI'll be watching! :) Lisa's books are terrific! :)
ReplyDeleteI am afraid of seeing some of favorites turned into movies though. What if they ruin the book for me?
I am afraid of seeing some of favorites turned into movies though. What if they ruin the book for me?
DeleteI share that concern, especially after seeing what Lifetime has done to some of the movies based on books by Nora Roberts. I have more faith in Hallmark. They did a great job with the Debbie Macomber books. At least I think so. :)
I would like to see some of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse books made into movies.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to read those one of these days.
DeleteI love Lisa Kleypas's books! I was sad because I thought the movie was supposed to air last night and it didn't, BUT I saw that Christmas with Holly will be airing tonight! I'm excited to see how the story will translate on film and the beauty of the place :) Thank you for the chance to win one of her books.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see some of Susan Elizabth Phillip's books turned into a movie, such as Kiss an Angel.
Several of SEP's books would work well on screen.
DeleteSo glad you didn't miss CHRISTMAS WITH HOLLY!
This one is a heartwarming stories. I like all Lisa Kleypas'book. It never cease to amaze me. The story is about how 3 of them find a true love despite of their awful past. Holly lost her mom, Mark doesn't believe that he can be a gOod guardian and finds a true love, while Maggie is a widow that is afraid to open her hearts to love another.
ReplyDeleteIt's a teary story where they fight and try to keep up which each other.
Thanks for the reminder that this movie was coming on tonight...I almost missed it. Thanks for the opportunity to win some great books.
ReplyDeleteHeather ~ Books Books and More Books
OMG! I'm definitely going to watch this tonight. I love Lisa Kleypas's historicals but haven't gotten around to reading her contemporaries.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see romance books made into movies whether for the big screen or just TV. I would love to see more holiday themed romances made into movies. I'm a total sucker for those.
Thanks so much for the giveaway!
So not fair, I want to watch it but I live in England D:. I've read all of Lisa Kleypas' books except Rainshadow Road and Christmas Eve At Friday Harbour, so perefect competition for me haha. Although I did absolutely love Dream Lake! My absolute favourite book is The Devil In Winter, could you imagine the wallflower series made into movies *swoon*
ReplyDeleteI will be watching to ight and even getting my husband to watch it with me. I love Lisa Kleypas's books and any of her books would make a wonderful movie.
ReplyDeleteI have already got this movie set up to record on my DVR. I can't wait to watch it. Love her books.
ReplyDeleteI love Lisa Kleypas books, I will be watching this movie tonight..
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! OMG!!! I LOVE LISA KLEYPAS BOOKS!
ReplyDeleteAnd I would like to see The Hathaways or The Wallflowers series made into a TV series or movie! I would die and go to heaven happy! *__*
Thank you so so much for the giveaway! Keeping fingers crossed!
Thanks for sharing this movie! I live in Canada and I will watch it too on ABC
ReplyDeleteI will have to watch it. I don't watch much TV, but I do love a good Christmas story.
ReplyDeleteI've got the movie set to record. I love Christmas movies. I think I've managed to record all of the Hallmark Christmas movies so far. :) I don't know which author to recommend for movies. I, too, am concerned about how the story changes when made for tv. I'm a big fan of Maeve Binchy who sadly has passed away. I wasn't happy with how they changed the ending of Circle of Friends. Kristin Hannah's books would be good if done correctly.

I love Christmas movies. And I extra love Lisa Kleypas. Keeping my fingers crossed that this ends up on Netflix!
ReplyDeleteWho watched? What did you think? The screenwriter changed quite a bit from the book. Quite a bit. Still, it was cute and enjoyable if you could forget the book and approach it fresh.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching it right now :)
DeleteDarn, I misread this. I thought it would be on the Hallmark channel, which meant it would be repeated. Didn't realize it was on ABC. I hope I can watch it on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI have had issues with how much Hallmark changes the books they make into movies. Julie Garwood let them take her Clayborne Brides series and make a movie. I was very upset with the results. The opening scene and the names of the characters were about the only thing that were true to the books. As much as I looked forward to it, it was a big disappointment and not anywhere nearly as good as the books. They threw in about every western cliche and totally changed who the characters were and the story line. There weren't even any happy endings. They turned fun romances into tragedies. I really hope they didn't butcher Lisa's story that much.
Pat, it will be shown on the Hallmark Channel starting next week.
DeleteJust watched the film and loved it!
ReplyDeleteIt was cute. I liked it, but didn't love it. I wish they had stayed true to the book...or at least more so than they did.
