Animal communicator Babette de Jongh brings you a bright and hopeful romance filled with:
Struggling widow Heather Gabriel takes a job at Magnolia Bay's Animal Shelter to provide for her family. She isn't ready to be anything more than colleagues with Adrian Crawford, the shelter's new business consultant. But the shelter's animal communication expert Reva Curtis knows there's more attraction between Heather and Adrian than they let on, and she's determined to bring them together. With the help of Heather's three children and all the animals at Bayside Barn, Heather and Adrian soon realize they can have a future together...if they can let go of the past.
PJ's Thoughts:
Magnolia Bay Memories takes readers back to this small Louisiana town with another charming story I didn't want to put down. As with the first book in this series, the author brings together humans and animals in a journey that tugged at my heart. I was rooting for all the characters, two-legged and four-legged, with equal measure.
I love the theme of second chances in this book. Heather is a young widow with three children who lost her beloved husband suddenly and tragically. Her children are her priority; romance is not on her horizon. Adrian enjoys his single life in New Orleans but still carries the emotional scars of Hurricane Katrina. Neither a relationship nor a ready-made family are in his plans. But a feral cat, a grieving horse, a shy little girl, and her rambunctious brother - not to mention that pesky desire that keeps sparking between him and Heather - keep bringing these two together. The question is what will they do about it?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has an abundance of charm, well-placed humor, tender emotion, and chemistry that evolves into sizzle. It also has depth. I appreciated that the author took the time to explore grief, not only Heather's, and her children's, but the lingering, more subtle grief that has guided Adrian's life choices as well. It made both characters relatable and their situations realistic. I like that she took her time with them, delving beneath the surface, and sharing both the ups and downs of their individual situations as well as the evolution of their journey from colleagues, to friends, to more. I also very much enjoyed the individual relationships that evolved between Adrian and the children. Those were some of my favorite scenes.
Then there are the animals. While Heather and Adrian took me on an emotional journey, the road Winky (the cat) and Charlie (the horse) traveled was no less impactful. De Jongh brings the animals in this series to life, allowing the reader into their thoughts, their hearts. If you're an animal lover (like I am), these two will make you laugh, shed a tear, and probably claim a corner of your heart.
This book can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone but readers should be aware that storylines and characters from book one, Warm Nights in Magnolia Bay, continue in this second book. If you want to know more about book one, click here to read my review.

Yes, I have read a few books with dog's thoughts and really enjoyed them. This story has lots of elements that I enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI hope you give her a try. She's a new to me author and I'm really enjoying her writing.
DeleteReading books with dogs innermost thoughts is wonderful. Many are memorable.
ReplyDeleteThese are definitely memorable. :)
DeleteI have read books that are heartfelt and beautiful with dogs thoughts. Such wise and special animals.
ReplyDeleteHope you give them a try.
DeleteI really enjoyed her first book and I'm looking forward to reading this one. I love books where the dog's thoughts are shown!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed book one, Martha.
DeleteI have read several stories where the author writes that animal's thoughts for us. The ones I've read have been well done.
ReplyDeleteThis author really captures the essence of the animal's personality.
DeleteI do enjoy romances that feature pets. They are such a warm loving part of life. I have read books where they have their own voice. Sometimes it's hilarious. This book sounds great. Thanks for the chance to win a copy.
ReplyDeleteThey are such a warm loving part of life.
DeleteI agree, Trish!
This is a new to me author. I enjoy books which have animals as characters. I have read a few books which included an animal's thoughts. Right now I am living with a dog who is driving me crazy. I am not sure I want to know his thoughts. I have expressed my thought to him on a regular basis and he does not give a fig about what I think. He is a male and goes his own way.
ReplyDeleteHope everyone is well and safe and happy.
I've had past experience with that kind of dog, Annette. About drove me crazy but eventually he settled down and was the sweetest guy ever. I hope your boy will do the same.
DeleteI love reading stories with animals in them, especially when they play a part of the story.
ReplyDeleteI think you'd really enjoy this series, Eileen.
DeleteI read a cozy mystery that was mostly told through a cat's POV.
ReplyDeleteI love reading books with animals in them. Several Cozy Mystery books have animals that talk on the pages.
ReplyDeleteMy kind of book. I have no doubt that animals can influence relationships. We were Animal Shelter volunteers for years fostering puppy litters before our jobs got in the way. Now that we are both retired, we are looking at volunteering at the shelter. I am past the puppy stage. We will just have to be careful not to get too attached. We ended up with a couple of foster fails from those litters. They have 3 senior females right now (taken from a bad situation) I would love to have, but we really can't handle that right now. Better to care for them there. One reminds me of my favorite of our 10 dogs that crossed the rainbow bridge 10 years ago. We have a senior dog at home already.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy animals in the books I read. There have been some books that give the animal's perspective and thoughts. However, how a character treats an animal gives important insight into their personality.
Having an animal in a book gives it a sweet touch.
