PJ's Birthday Giveaway #8
Roxanne St. Claire
Hush, Puppy
I've been reading books written by Roxanne St. Claire for more than twenty years. Seventeen years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting her in person for the first time after winning a book from her and discovering from the return address that she lived around the corner from relatives I visited a few months later. No, I did not surprise her by showing up on her doorstep uninvited. Yes, she did invite me to get together. :)
In the years that have passed since that first meeting, I have followed her from steamy romantic suspense to sensual contemporary romance to a feel-good contemporary series featuring a big, loving Irish-American family and rescue dogs to an offshoot series featuring two matchmaking grannies and more dogs. Her books never fail to engage my emotions, make me laugh, and give me a happy, heartfelt HEA.
The book I'm giving away today is Hush, Puppy (read my review), a 5-star read about which I said in my review, "This book is everything I wanted, everything I needed. It's sweet, funny, deeply emotional, and so doggone good that it left my heart overflowing with joy. So much so, that as soon as I turned the final page all I wanted to do was go back to the beginning and read it all over again." Hush, Puppy is book five in The Dogmothers series which is described by St. Claire as follows: "Two matchmaking grannies are opposites in life but lined up on love. One has the steel spine of a Greek warrior, the other the heart of an Irish poet. Together, along with a duo of darling dachshunds, these two won’t stop until all their grandchildren are hooked, hitched, and happy."

by Roxanne St. Claire
John Santorini faces a whirlwind summer. Juggling business woes and troubles at his Greek restaurant, his world shifts when a lively little girl takes a liking to his mischievous new puppy at the park. Things get even more complicated when his grandmother insists he spend time with the little girl’s beautiful single mom, a young widow who’s new to Bitter Bark.
Summer Jackson might have come to Bitter Bark to find someone from her past, but an unexpected encounter with a charismatic dog owner has her thinking about the future. She’s enchanted by John’s warmth, especially when his puppy helps fix her daughter’s struggle with a stutter. But when shadows from the past threaten their new love, will John have to settle for a Summer fling…or do the Dogmothers have the recipe for romance one more time?

Happy Birthday! I have enjoyed many of Roxanne's books. I have not read Hush Puppy.
ReplyDeleteOver the years my husband and I have had two dogs and three cats. Our latest cat likes to play "fetch" and clean out cobwebs from behind the clothes washing machine (he wears them like a robe.) Really, just too cute. I just finished Ava Morgyn's Bane Witch, featuring an adorable black lab dog who wants to protect his new Mommy after his previous Daddy died.

ReplyDeleteRoxanne St. Claire is one of my favorite authors! I haven't read this series yet, but plan too. I love animals in books, especially if they are unique animals. I live on a small farm, we have goats, chickens, rabbits, ducks and pigeons, along with many cats and 3 dogs!
ReplyDeleteI lost ve. Romances with animals in them especially dogs. No pets but I do have a Granddog is name is Mudge and he is a Brown Lab. Thanks for your great generosity. Linda May
ReplyDeleteHaven't read any by her yet. I love books with pets in them, and I am open to cats or dogs. Our family has an elderly cat currently.
ReplyDeleteYou are a new author to me. Love books with animals in them, especially dogs and cats. I have a female cocker spaniel and she is the Love of my Life! The cover of your book is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for the opportunity to possibly receive this book.😊💗📖
ReplyDeleteI read some of Roxanne St. Claire's early books. I remember reading about the Dogmothers series and thinking it would be a perfect read for me. I love interfering older relatives and friends that want their young acquaintances to be happily married and will work to make it happen. Add cute dogs and children and I am all in. I never got a chance to read any of them at the time.
ReplyDeleteAnimals in romances or any book serve a good purpose. How a person treats an animal tells you much about what type of person they are. We have had just about everything as a pet at one time or another. I became attached to one of our rabbits. We have had 15 dogs and about 10 cats. I like them both. Dogs are a bit more work than cats, but they interact with you more actively. Cats will show affection, but when you respond they don't always appreciate it. Claws or a bite will usually tell you they are finished interacting. Everything you need to know about a dog is in their eyes. They read you emotions and your needs and the good ones will take care of you. There is a reason dogs are service animals and cats are not. Dogs are serious about their responsibility. Cats are more likely to be "I'm sleeping. Don't bother me."
My favorites of our dogs, all were rescues, are our first and second. The first one was a beagle mix and great with our young children. She traveled beautifully, which was a good thing because we moved from NY to Colorado, to California, to Washington DC, to Tennessee. She would curl up in the back and not move until we stopped. Our second was a lab mix. She was the sweetest dog ever. She adored my husband. She would put her chin on your lap, look at you with those big brown eyes, and just let you know she loved you. We were graced with each of them for 15 years.
