Welcome to The Romance Dish's first Featured Author Spotlight for the 2025 Coastal Magic Convention. Coastal Magic (CMCon25) is a fun-filled, weekend reader/author event held in Daytona Beach, FL each February. The 2025 event is February 20-23 and registration is now open. Each month from now through January, 2025 l will be spotlighting one Featured Author who will be attending next year's event. First up is Caridad Pineiro. Caridad is joining us today to talk about her South Beach Security K-9 Division series for Harlequin Intrigue and her newest book, Escape the Everglades. I just finished reading it and - whoa - what a heart-tugging, action-packed ride. I couldn't put it down.
I’m so excited to be visiting with you all on The Romance
Dish! It’s such an exciting year for me since besides having the brand new
South Beach Security K-9 Division
spinoff series beginning in May, we’re also waiting for our first grandbaby in
the next week or so! All joyous new releases! Read on to find out about these
new releases and how to enter a giveaway for a $10 gift card and an e-copy of
BISCAYNE BAY BREACH.
This month’s release in the SBS K-9 Division series is ESCAPE THE EVERGLADES which features some very interesting heroes. Carlos Ruiz is a marine who’s now a single dad because of his wife’s tragic death. Carlos is an environmentalist who also runs a tour business in the Florida Everglades. The heroines, K-9 Agent Natalie Rodriguez and Missy, a Labrador Retriever, are both Army veterans suffering from PTSD after being injured while on deployment. It was a labor of love to bring Carlos, his son Luke, Natalie, and Missy together to help them heal from the wounds in their lives.
In ESCAPE THE EVERGLADES, Carlos and Luke are out in search
of a Florida panther they are tracking when they run across alligator egg
poachers. They have to flee the area when the poachers fire on them but manage
to save the eggs by bringing in game wardens to assist. But that prompts a
series of attacks at Carlos’s home and business and he calls in South Beach
Security to help.
What follows is an action-packed and emotional story as
Natalie and Missy protect Carlos and Luke and as both father and son begin to
love again after the loss in their lives. That love and the beauty of the
Everglades will help Natalie and Missy heal from the wounds of war.
One of the fun things about writing all the stories in the
SBS K-9 series was picking the dogs for each story based on their special
skills.
In the first book, SABOTAGE OPERATION, the SBS K-9 agent is
needed for protection so the K-9 heroine is a Belgian Malinois.
Since Labrador Retrievers are great in watery situations and
search and rescue, Missy was perfect for ESCAPE THE EVERGLADES!
In KILLER IN THE KENNEL (November 2024), the K-9 heroine is
a bloodhound since the story involves searches for missing women and cadavers.
Finally, DANGER IN DADE (Christmas 2025) a pit bull is the
top dog since she’s needed for protection.
You may be asking yourself what’s next since I’m happy to say I’ll be doing another 4 book spinoff which will also have some puppers in the stories. Would you believe a corgi is the K-9?
Thanks so much for visiting with me. For a chance to win a
$10 gift card and an e-copy of BISCAYNE BAY BREACH, #3 in the earlier South
Beach Security Series, let me know if you love stories with dogs!
Okay, readers, tell us if you love stories with dogs in them. And if you have dogs in your real life, feel free to tell us about them too!
One randomly chosen person who posts a comment before 11:00 PM, July 14 will receive Caridad's giveaway of a $10 gift card and an e-copy of BISCAYNE BAY BREACH.
I enjoy stories which include dogs and their people. I live with a dog of my own. At the moment, I am sharing a house with family and a total of 5 dogs. It is rather like .....no, not that....OK, it is unlike anything I have experienced in life. I need to sell my house and then buy another one where I am now....until then....I am here with a new adventure every day. Thanks for the introduction to a new to me author.
ReplyDeleteWow, I can imagine it's an adventure with 5 dogs! Good luck on the house search!
DeleteWhoa, I love dogs but five is a lot. Sending lots of good house selling vibes your way, Annette.
DeleteStories with dogs in them are meaningful, emotional and unforgettable. I have had and do now have a small rescue dog. These dogs give me hope, and love. They are very smart, energetic, loving and loyal and when I am surrounded by these sweet and wonderful creatures I know all is right with the world.
ReplyDeleteThey are such wonderful companions! I am glad your dog gives you such joy!
DeleteMy dogs have all been rescues and the best companions.
DeleteThanks so much for letting me visit with you today!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here, Caridad!
DeleteI love books with dogs.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteMe too! They add something to the story!
DeleteI love dogs in books, any kind of pet really. My fur baby crossed the rainbow bridge nearly 5 years ago and for the time being we are not getting another dog. I have the first two books in audio and will be listening to them for the reading challenge. I'm looking forward to seeing you again at Coastal Magic!
ReplyDeleteI made that same decision when I lost my last dog in 2016. I wanted to travel and decided it wouldn't be fair to have a dog when I planned to be gone so much. I hope you enjoy the books. I started with ESCAPE THE EVERGLADES and immediately downloaded book one as soon as I finished.
DeleteSo sorry you both lost your fur babies. It's so hard! Looking forward to seeing you both at CMC
DeleteI love when pets are included in stories as they can add color or comfort. And a rescue dog is already a hero!,
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Rescue dogs rock!
DeleteI love dogs in books. We have had dogs in the past, but not currently. We currently have one cat. We have had a variety of pets through the years.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a dog but spend time with my sister's rescued greyhounds. One just passed sadly. I do have a cat that I love!
DeleteDogs, or any animal, in a story serve to show much about a character. The way a person treats animals shows much about there personality. Dogs also tend to usually be pretty good judges of a persons feelings and intensions. We are on dog number 14 at the moment. All have been rescues. Winnie was 8 or 9 when we got her and is very withdrawn. It took about 3 months before she even made a sound. We know nothing of her background. She was found dumped in the woods, but was well groomed and fed. She startles at noises, even the dropping of a credit card. My husband has been working with her and she will finally sit on his lab or near him. She rarely relaxes. She appears to be a beagle & dachshund mix. We have two other dogs that we "share" with our son. Lucinda is a geriatric pitbull that we got as a puppy. She was found severely beaten and in a ditch. There are still a few incident over food, but she has been a good dog for the most part. She obviously had a rough start. Nellie is about 15 months old and still very much a puppy. She is a lab hound mix or something. She has lots of energy and unfortunately, is still very much still a chewer of everything. We crate her when we are not home and she is really good about it. We have not been without at least one dog for over 45 years. We did foster litters of puppies for the local animal shelter as well as several special case dogs. We did keep one from the first litter (a lab mix and my favorite of all our dogs), and one from the last litter, a little terrier mix. They can be a lot of work, but they are wonderful companions.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree about learning about a person's character by the way they treat animals. I've thought about fostering but with a new grandbaby on the way, I think that will take all our time!
DeleteI enjoy stories with dogs whether they are just family pets or working police dogs. They add a different dimension to a story with their interactions with humans.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dog story is bittersweet. My son worked to earn a dog. We got her from the SPCA and she got one free vet visit from the vet in town. He said she had a heart murmur and we should return her. My son said know because they would put her down. Faithful had five wonderful years with our family. She was my son's best friend. One morning she woke up came and laid down next to my husband. A few minutes later we realized she was gone. So I got the other kids up and took them out while he got my son up. It was just a couple of week before he left for basic training so he got to be there for her until the end.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a wonderful story. I'm glad your son had such love in his life.
DeleteThat is a sad but sweet story. <3 ButtonsMom2003
ReplyDeleteI love stories with all sorts of animals.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to do a romantic suspense with a cat being a hero but that would be almost impossible. Cats have such independent streaks. I can't imagine them following orders. Maybe a cat burglar with a cat who burgles (is that even a word?)
