The Teen Menu

YA News

Emma Watson's first major project since the end of the Harry Potter films is The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which opens Sept. 14. A trailer of the film, which also stars Nina Dobrev of The Vampire Diaries and Percy Jackson's Logan Lerman. Click here to see a trailer and read more about the film.

The final installment of the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn, Part 2, doesn't open until Nov. 16. But in mid-June, Entertainment Weekly offered up the latest scoop, including photos of Mackenzie Foy, who plays Bella and Edward's human/vampire hybrid daughter. Check out the photos here.

Summit Entertainment also released a 10-second teaser trailer for the movie, which you can see here. And shortly thereafter, they released the first full-length trailer, which gives us more of a look at Bella as a vampire and the impending battle with the Volturi.

YA Reviews

When you're in high school, the name of the game is often fitting in. It's difficult enough when you're a normal teenager. But imagine how difficult it must be when you see what you think are ghosts, phantoms of people long gone. Imagine also if seeing these ghosts also led to a very public freakout in school followed by some time in an institution. This is what Emerson Cole, the heroine of Hourglass by Myra McEntire, has to deal with, not the mention the deaths of both parents.

But all of that is in the past. Well, she still sees the ghosts, or whatever they are, but she's learned to cope in the absence of anything that can make them go away. She's back home with her older brother and his wife, and she's back to hanging out with her best friend. But then her brother brings in a mysterious young man who is a representative of an organization called the Hourglass, and Emerson decides to try one last attempt at a cure.

But as she gets to know the very nice-looking Michael, everything she's assumed about her "ability" is turned on it's head. There's much more to it than she could have ever imagined -- huge, change-the-world-in-big-ways things.

I thoroughly enjoyed Hourglass, and I plan to soon read the sequel, Timepiece, soon since it's already out.

Also, if you missed it, Anna Campbell reviewed another of the Young Adult RITA finalists, Warped by Maurissa Guibord, on June 24. You can read her review here.

  6. I have really become fascinated with YA in recent years. Not only do I enjoy it but it also gives me more insight as to what young people are interested in reading and what makes them tick. I think if more parents would take the time to read what their children are reading, they could have meaningful conversations that would certainly please everyone!
