Virgin River Debuts on Netflix

I remember the day I first discovered Robyn Carr's Virgin River, almost 13 years ago. I was browsing the book aisle at my local Walmart one Saturday morning - as I was frequently known to do - when a book cover caught my eye. The mountain cabin with its front porch rockers piqued my interest, the back cover blurb sealed the deal, and by the end of the weekend I had fallen in love with Mel, Jack, and the town of Virgin River.

Yesterday, Netflix brought Robyn Carr's beloved characters to life with the premiere of Season One of Virgin River, the series.

In the midst of a busy day, I took a break to watch Episode One. Several hours later, I reluctantly turned off my TV after watching the entire season - all ten episodes. Kudos to Netflix for their wonderful casting, writing, acting, and filming. While there are some changes, they've retained all the wonderful qualities of Robyn Carr's emotional stories and beloved characters. By the end of the first episode, I was fully immersed in the world I had fallen in love with through Carr's written words. I am all-in for as many seasons as Netflix chooses to make...and fervently hoping that number is high!

Have you read the Virgin River books?

Have you watch the Netflix premiere yet?

What did you think?

If you haven't started the series yet, Virgin River, book one, is currently on sale for $1.99 in e-book format.

  1. I have read every book in the series. I couldn't wait to come back to Virgin River. No I haven't seen the series on Netflix. Not a subscriber.

    1. It's one of the best book to screen adaptations I've seen. While they've made some changes to some of Carr's characters/storylines, I think they've done a good job of retaining the spirit of the books.

  2. I have read the entire series, probably about the same time as you PJ. Since I haven't added Netflix to my viewing choices I have not seen it yet. I see a visit to one of my daughters' houses to do so, unless . . . Thanks PJ!!

  3. I have read the series + the following Thunderpoint series and also the slightly connected pre-series set in Grace Valley - loved them all! I haven't had the time to watch the series yet - when I start, I'll probably binge them all too!

I am trying to stretch it out but I will probably be finished by Monday.😢 When is season two coming out?🤣 At first I didnt like the actress playing Mel but shes already grown on me. I cant believe that Hope is Annette O'Toole!!😳

    1. Addictive, isn't it? ;-)

It took me a couple episodes to realize that was Annette O'Toole. Good acting...and hair and makeup!

  7. I have read some of the books in the series and have them all. Sadly we don't get Netflix, so I won't be watching the series. Maybe it will come out on video and I can rent or buy it. From the clip above, it looks like they have done a good job of bringing it to life.

  9. I've never read the books and I haven't seen the new Netflix series yet but it is on my To-Watch list. I'm a sucker for films like this. Love the sappy, love stories with happy endings. Gives me a chance to cry once in a while!

  10. I've read all of the series, but don't have Netflix. I'm more of a reader than a watcher. While interested in other readers reactions, I'm usually disappointed in end products after having read the book. But I'll also say that as I read, the book unfolds in my mind as if a movie.
I love Robyn's books and hope that she's happy with the Netflix product.
