Happy 1st of October, everyone! Fall is here and Halloween is just around the corner. My kids (aka Anakin Skywalker and Wonder Woman) can’t wait! Do you and/or your kids dress up for Halloween?
Lately, I’ve been pondering anthologies. Why? Because I’ve been reading one story from The Mammoth Book of Regency Romance between each of my review books. I’ve read a few so far and am enjoying them very much. I know that people have mixed feelings about anthologies--some love ‘em, some hate ‘em. Personally, I love them. To me, they’re a quick way to get my romance fix if I don’t have a lot of time and also a chance to possibly introduce me to a new author. So, what about you? Love ‘em or hate ‘em? Why?
And as always, this time of the month means it’s time for a crop of new releases to hit shelves! Below is a list of books releasing this month. Which October romances have you read? Of those, which ones do you recommend? Which ones are you most looking forward to? Tell us and one lucky person will win a book I picked up from this year’s RWA conference!
Until November, happy reading!

ReplyDeleteI wish my goblins still trick or treated but they are grown now and in college.
ReplyDeleteBut I have already put my ceramic Jack-O-Lantern on the front steps and I have been eating candy corn for a month now.

ReplyDeleteMeljean Brook's, THE IRON DUKE!!
It is so good and I have never read steampunk before. :)
another month gone already, but autumn does have it's own beauty. I agree anthologies are a nice way to get in a quick read and check out an author I haven't read before. I don't read them often but enjoy reading one occasionally.
ReplyDeleteBooks have read, enjoyed & recommend:
Mad About the Duke -- Elizabeth Boyle
A Hellion in Her Bed -- Sabrina Jeffries
The Dangerous Viscount -- Miranda Neville
Already on the TBR pile/TBB list:
One Touch of Scandal -- Liz Carlyle

Lord Lightning -- Jenny Brown
Is there time/money enough list (an ever growing list):
The Surrender of a Lady -- Tiffany Clare
Scandal of the Season -- Christie Kelley
A Season of Seduction -- Jennifer Haymore
Great list of releases this month! I'm definitely looking forward to Elizabeth Boyle's Mad About a Duke, Tiffany Clare's debut Surrender of a Lady, and Lisa Kleypas' novella Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor. (Though that's technically a November book right?) I'm really excited about Lisa's new contemporary series, and I can't wait to see what historicals she has in store. I admire how Lisa seems to transition so effortlessly between her contemporaries and historicals. But I guess that's why she's one of the greats. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm an anthology fan too, Andrea, and like you, I'm still reading the aptly name Mammoth Book of Regency Romance. (I adored Anna Campbell's story.)It has become my car book because I can read a story or two while I'm waiting at in the school-pickup line or at soccer practice. I've read Bespelling Jane, and I'm still amazed that Mary Balogh wrote a paranormal novella. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI've read eight of the titles on your list already plus Kate Moore's To Save the Devil, which I think is an Oct. 5 release. All of those I've read have been good reads, but I particularly loved Anne Gracie's The Accidental Wedding. Moore's TSTD and Courtney Milan's Trial by Desire are both exciting and different.
Of the twenty still on my TBR stack or my TBB list, I am most eager to read the books by Tiffany Clare and Miranda Neville. I'm also looking forward to more books by new or new-to-me authors than I typically read in several months.
I enjoyed reading A Hellion in Her Bed (Sabrina Jeffries) and I absolutely loved Double Cross (Carolyn Crane.)
ReplyDeleteI’m eagerly looking forward to Jennifer Estep’s Venom—love that series—and the new books by several authors of historicals, including Haymore, Hunter, Milan and Neville. So many good ones this month!
I don't dress for Halloween, but have a daughter (in her 20's) who's shopping for her Sexy Halloween costume.
ReplyDeleteI have one of the Mammoth Anthologies, but haven't started reading it. I really should get it out so I don't start a book and stay up half the night reading.
There are lots of great books this month. I'm in the middle of Crossroads now.
TBR
A Hellion in her Bed by Sabrina Jeffries
Killer Heat by Brenda Novak
Breathless by Anne Stuart
Poisoned Kisses by Stephanie Draven
The Keepers by Heather Graham
Dr. Colton's High Stakes Fiancee
I want:
Crave by J.R. Ward
When Pleasure Rules by J. K. Beck
The Bite before Christmas by Heidi Betts
I'm looking forward to the YA book Hunger by Jackie Morse Kessler.
There are others, but only so much money for books.
andrea.infinger@gmail.com
Deanna Raybourn's book, Dark Road to Darjeeling, releases today. I hope to start that one soon. I didn't see Lisa Kleypas' new book listed here, but Chrismas Eve at Friday Harbor releases on October 26. I look forward to reading that. I'll also try Mary Balogh's new paranormal anthology based on Jane Austen.
ReplyDeleteFinally, I've been reading some good reviews for debut author Ashley March. I may have to try her book, Seducing the Duchess.
There are a bunch that I want to read starting with:
ReplyDeleteOne Touch of Scandal -- Liz Carlyle
The Surrender of a Lady -- Tiffany Clare
This list just reinforces my motto: "So many (great) books, so little time." *g*
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late, everyone!! I've been at my kids' school all day and just got home. Thanks for all the comments!
ReplyDeleteHey, Helen! Ah, if only we ALL had more time to read! My kids just had a read-a-thon at their school and my son read over 2400 minutes in 12 days. I told him that I was jealous!! LOL!!
Hiya, Jane! I hear you about Halloween candy. I think I'm in the minority because I actually like candy corn. Am I the only one?? I hope you enjoy The Naughty List!!
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Sheree! That statement rings true for so many of us! From your list, I'm especially looking forward to Tiffany's and Miranda's. I hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHello, Kirsten!! I cannot wait to read Elizabeth Boyle's book. She never disappoints!
ReplyDeleteHey there, gigi! Yay, another candy corn and Elizabeth Boyle fan! I hope you enjoy all the books on your list :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Laurie! You will love Simply Irresistible! I don't know why anyone wouldn't. You must stop by and let me know what you thought after you read it :)
ReplyDeleteHey there, Scorpio! I learned about steampunk at this year's RWA conference and am looking forward to reading some. They sound really great!
ReplyDeletegamistress66 said: Is there time/money enough list (an ever growing list)
ReplyDeleteLOL, I love this! You've got a great bunch of books on all yours lists, gamistress. I hope you get the time/money to enjoy them! ;-)
Hiya, Lisa! I am SO with you--I can't wait for Lisa Kleypas's newest contemp!! Yes, I believe the release date is November 9th. She is one author that I will not hesitate to buy in hardcover, for sure. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Janga, I adored Anna's, too!! These Mammoth books are such a great idea. Thanks for the heads up about Kate Moore's! I'll get it added ASAP! :)
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, LSUReader! I have heard some really great things about Carolyn Crane's and Jennifer Estep's books. When I get time I need to read them!
ReplyDeleteAndrea I said: I don't dress for Halloween, but have a daughter (in her 20's) who's shopping for her Sexy Halloween costume.
ReplyDeleteSome stores have some really, really sexy costumes, don't they, Andrea? I got lucky this year and both my kids want to be who they were last year, so I don't have to buy any costumes! I hope you enjoy your books!
Thanks for letting me know about Deanna's book, Penfield! I'll get it added ASAP. As for Lisa's, it will be on next month's list since it's considered a November release. But thanks for letting me know that it releases October 26! I thought it was November 9th, so that's good news!
ReplyDeleteHi, Maureen! I hope you enjoy Liz's and Tiffany's!
ReplyDeleteI hear you, Gannon!!
ReplyDeleteI just want to let you know how much I appreciate you posting the lists of new releases each month. These lists help me to make sure I am not overlooking any new books that I want to read. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe books I cannot wait to read are:
Sinful in Satin - Madeline Hunter
The Dangerous Viscount - Miranda Neville
Eat Prey Love - Kerrelyn Sparks
Taken By Midnight - Lara Adrian
Trial By Desire - Courtney Milan
Seducing the Duchess - Ashley March
Thank you so much for letting me know, Raven99! It's my pleasure to post it. Your list looks very much like my list! I hope you enjoy them. :)
ReplyDeleteThere are sooo many good books that are coming out this month that I can't wait to get my hands on.
ReplyDeleteHere's a few I can't wait to read:
Crave by JR Ward
His Darkest Embrace-Juliana Stone
The Surrender of a Lady-Tiffany Clare
A Season of Seduction-Jennifer Haymore
Scandal of the Season-Christie Kelley
As for anthologies, I'm not really the biggest fan of them. I generally won't go near them unless it has one of my favorite authors in it. I just feel like the story is rushed and is missing something.
What a list, Andrea! I agree with you about anthologies. I love them! Being in school, I don't have a lot of time to read a romance book and anthologies are perfect!
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis. Great so far!
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI like anthologies. I get introduced to new-to-me authors and I can read a shorter story when I don't have much time.
I like anthologies, great for when I want to read but no time for a full-length, plus I like those that are related to a series.
ReplyDeleteJust finished Hunter's Sinful in Satin last, very good. Really liking her Rarest Blooms series so far (Ravishing in Red, still my favorite of the 3 so far, but loved them all).
Also really enjoyed Sabrina Jeffries, A Hellion in Her Bed, good character chemistry.
Have to have that Carlyle, and have the Anne Stuart to read tonight maybe. Also have to get Deanna Raybourn's latest in that series, a favorite; and dying to read Meljean's The Iron Duke, after reading her short prequel.
Three new debuts caught my eye, Tiffany Clare, Kalayna Price, and Jenny Brown, and I now have Venom along with Estep's previous 2 in the series so I can get caught up with this intriguing series.
Also read some Bespelling Jane Austen anthology. Mary Balogh's I liked best so far, reincarnation story.
Haven't read any of them :)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to read;
Whisper of Scandal - Nicola Cornick
Crescendo -- Becca Fitzpatrick Torment -- Lauren Kate
The Iron Duke -- Meljean Brook
Of those you listed, I am looking forward to:
ReplyDeleteSeduce and Rescue -- Jillian Burns
Another Wild Wedding Night -- Leslie Kelly
Northern Exposure -- Jennifer LaBrecque
Simply Irresistible -- Jill Shalvis
The Ex Factor -- Nancy Warren
A Chesapeake Shores Christmas -- Sherryl Woods
I am sure there are WAY more, but I never seem to buy them when they first come out anyway....
Good point, Danielle! In my opinion, a lot of novellas seem to work better when the hero and heroine are already acquainted in some way. Thanks for stopping by! :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm...wonder where you got that book from, Trisha... ;-) I told you you'd like it!!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, chey! Another anthology fan! Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI know, Artemis! I thought the same thing. There are SO many historicals out. Lots to choose from. Great list! I still haven't read an Anne Stuart book yet. I am so behind! lol
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Pam! I need to pick up the Bespelling Jane Austen anthology. I'm interested in these authors' twists on her stories! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteHi there, mariska! I hope you enjoy the books you pick up!
ReplyDeleteHi, Laney! Yay, another person looking forward to Simply Irresistible! I can't say enough good things about this book. It is really that good. I hope you enjoy it! :)
ReplyDeleteAnother banner month for releases, Andrea!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe there are so many and that people have already read many of them! How do you all find the time??? LOL!
I love anthologies and I especially loved the Mammoth Book of Regency Romances. I think the whole Mammoth Book idea is great!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to so many books out in October but tops on my list are:
Mad About the Duke -- Elizabeth Boyle
Scoundrel in My Dreams -- Celeste Bradley
Lord Lightning -- Jenny Brown
The Viscount and the Virgin -- Annie Burrows
One Touch of Scandal -- Liz Carlyle
Whisper of Scandal -- Nicola Cornick
The Making of a Gentleman -- Shana Galen

Scandal of the Season -- Christie Kelley
Trial by Desire -- Courtney Milan
The Dangerous Viscount -- Miranda Neville
A Rake by Midnight -- Gail Ranstrom
Our Wicked Mistake -- Emma Wildes
