Liz Parker doesn’t like surprises, but winning the lottery isn’t something she would complain about. Before she has time to think about how to spend her new fortune, she’s hit with an even bigger shock than unexpected wealth. She has three months to live unless she finds a one-in-a-million bone marrow donor.

While her medical team scrambles to locate her miracle, Liz throws together a bucket list, charters a private jet, and takes off to see the world. The journey of a lifetime holds even more surprises, including the hunky pilot she’s falling for at the most inconvenient time.

Will Liz die before she can realize her happily-ever-after, or will the universe come through for her one more time? Find out in this humorous tale of true love and adventure!

My thoughts:

Who among us hasn't thought about what we'd do if fate visited us with a winning lottery ticket? For control freak Liz, it's a chance to see all the places she's spent years teaching her high school history students about. And when fate visits her again, with a devastating medical diagnosis, time becomes crucial. Hiring sexy Adam and his hilarious best friend, Orlando as her private co-pilots, Liz sets out to see the world...on her terms. But fate has a few lessons in store for our heroine.

I always count on Rich Amooi for feel-good, heartfelt, humorous romance and he has yet to let me down. This time around, his main characters, twice-divorced Liz and widowed Adam, have some life experience under their belts, adding additional depth to their story. As a woman "of a certain age," I enjoyed this journey of two seasoned individuals that shows we're never too old for a new chance at love.

Another fun aspect of this book is the detail the author uses to describe each stop on their jaunt around the world. From the comfort of my favorite reading chair, I was transported to Machu Picchu in South America, to a remote Masai village in Africa, to the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and beyond. Not only did I enjoy the opportunity to view these wonders through the eyes of the characters but the lessons gently conveyed through their experiences at each location stirred in me the desire connect; to reach out and make a difference.

The romance is a slow-burn with plenty of attraction but very little physical steam on the page and the predictable conclusion is one I saw coming from miles away but you know what? I didn't care. I didn't care that there weren't a lot of twists and turns and surprises. I cared about these characters, with all their realistic flaws. I cared about their journeys, both external and internal. I cared about the challenges they faced, the lessons they learned, the joys they absorbed into their souls. And the next vacation I take I want Orlando as my travel mate. So. much. fun.

If you're looking for a feel-good romantic comedy, with some emotional depth, that touches your heart, tickles your funny bone, and sweeps you away to exotic destinations, tuck a copy of Rich Amooi's Dying to Meet You into your summer reading bag.
