Today's Special - - Teresa Medeiros

It's always a delight when Teresa Medeiros joins us here at The Romance  Dish.  Not only is she one of my favorite people but she's also a fantastic author who can be counted on to make me laugh, make me sigh and always make me happy I picked up one of her books.  Please join me in welcoming Teresa as she talks about one of my favorite topics:  romance kisses!

As a romance reader, nothing makes me shiver with delight or sigh with longing more than a well-written kiss scene, especially if it's the first kiss our hero and heroine share on the page. Here's an exclusive ROMANCE DISH sneak peek at the very first kiss Ashton Burke and Clarinda Cardew share in my upcoming historical THE PLEASURE OF YOUR KISS after being torn apart nine years before:

As if to prove his point, Ash brushed his lips over hers in a feather-light caress, sending her already shaky senses reeling. It was as if their lips had never been parted. As if time had stopped and all the moments between their last kiss and this one had only been grains of glittering sand suspended in some frozen hourglass.
Clarinda had no defenses against such shattering tenderness. As he deepened the kiss, sweeping his tongue through her mouth in a velvety caress, she was forced to curl a hand around the broad expanse of his nape and tangle her fingers in the wet silk of his hair just to keep from sliding back into the water. If she went under this time, she didn't think there would be any saving herself.

Ashton and Clarinda's reunion takes place in a sultan's harem, which allows ample opportunities for kissing (and other delights ;)). Describing the charms of a kiss in words is never easy and I'm always inspired by those unforgettable screen kisses that still make me swoon with pleasure.

There's the kiss between Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin in THE BIG EASY after he calls her "cher" and promises that her luck in the bedroom is about to change. There's the jaw-drooping smooch Spike slaps on Buffy at the end of "Once More with Feeling", the musical episode of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (complete with soul-stirring crescendo of romantic music). There's Madeline Stowe and Daniel Day Lewis finally succumbing to passion in LAST OF THE MOHICANS while the world around them is consumed by the fires of battle.

But my all-time favorite (which is ever so appropriate for this holiday season) is the kiss George Bailey plants on Mary Hatch in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. That single kiss is one of the hottest love scenes in cinematic history. There are no rumpled bedsheets. There are no naked, straining bodies. There is simply George and Mary sharing a phone in her mother's living room. An overtly hostile George is torn between his dream of escaping his hometown while there's still time and his desperate desire for young Mary. I don't have to tell you which one wins and in that moment when he drops the phone and grabs Mary, the chemistry between them is so sizzling it may very well melt your heart and your Blu-Ray player.

As I celebrate the pleasures of kissing and the release of THE PLEASURE OF YOUR KISS on December 27th, I'd love to hear about YOUR favorite movie or TV kiss! One lucky commenter today will win an autographed Advanced Reading Copy of THE PLEASURE OF YOUR KISS!

Teresa won't be available to respond to comments until sometime this afternoon.  She's busy this morning bringing home the newest member of the Medeiros family. Welcome home, Pickles!  Isn't he a cutie?

  2. Hi Tersa,
I can't believe it, my daughter and I love the kiss scene in It's A Wonderful Life. We both agree there is more emotion in that scene and kiss then any kiss we've ever seen. Just the way he inhales her hair while she's on the phone is pure magic. Happy Holidays Teresa. Thank you for the opportunity.

  3. Hi Teresa, I have been a fan forever. I really enjoy following you, Connie Brockway, Christina Dodd and Eloisa James on FaceBook. The interplay among the four of you is always terrific and laugh out loud hilarious!

Now about Kisses: you've already picked out some of the best ones, but I'll add just one more. Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweiger) and Marc Darcy's (Colin Firth, the definitive Mr. Darcy) kiss at the end of the movie "Bridget Jones' Diary. The dialogue and the kiss are perfect.
"Wait a minute, nice boys don't kiss like that" "Oh yes they F-----g do!"

  4. A kiss can be so romantic and it's more than that. It's the surroundings, the music, the whole packaging of it that creates magic. I thought the kissing scene in The Notebook where the couple was caught in the rain was so sweet.

  5. You already named my fav kiss scene, It's a Wonderful Life, and my brain never kicks in until about 7. I am on auto pilot until I get to work.

Ummmm, Sleepless in Seattle on top of the Empire State building is a good one.

  10. Hi, Teresa! I am so-o-o eager to read The Pleasure of Your Kiss. It's been too long since we had a new TM historical.

George and Mary's kiss rates high on my list too. Others I'd include on my best movie kisses list are Bogey and Becall in To Have and Have Not, the long kiss in Notorious, the kiss in the rain in Breakfast at Tiffany's, and the happy-ending kiss in The Princess Bride. If we include TV movies, I'd add the final scene of North and South.

  11. OK So I don't know their names off the top of my head but in the movie White Christmas, at the end when the main 4 characters are behind the tree and the two couples kiss! LOVE IT

First off, I cannot wait to read your new book! YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!

While I love romance books, I'm not that into romantic movies! My favorite movie is "The Departed", so... Lol!!! I do also love "P.S., I Love You". But then again, who wouldn't, it's got Gerard Butler in it! Yum!

You should have been around for Squawk Radio when Teresa, Christina Eloisa, Lisa, Liz and Connie gave us a daily window into their friendship. Every day began with a visit to SR and a smile! :)

  26. Hi Teresa,
I agree with marrybelle The Kiss in GWTW is my all time favorite with Rhett and Scarlett.

I also love the kiss at the end of Made of Honor with Tom (Patrick Dempsey) and (Hanna) Michelle Monaghan.
I can't forget the kiss in the first Spidermnan movie between Spiderman and Maryjane. You know the one where he is hanging upside down.

  27. Teresa, you have picked ALL the best cinematic kisses! And I love that kiss in It's A Wonderful Life. There's so much drama, tension, and emotion in the scene - not one word is necessary to convey what George is feeling. And when he falls, he falls hard. So beautiful!

And good luck with the newest addition to the household. What a cutie!

    ReplyDelete
  28. One of my favorites is the kiss between Drew Barrymore and Michael Vartan at the end of Never Been Kissed. I've watched that movie at least 20 times and I never, ever get tired of that scene!

  29. Great choices, Gigi! My list of movies I need to watch (and re-watch) is growing rapidly!

  31. Hi Theresa,
Welcome to your new addition!!! Looking forward to The Pleasure of Your Kiss! I have to say that one of my fave movie kisses has to be in Ghost. When Patrick Swayze as a 'ghost" is kissing Demi Moore. Such a tear jerking moment!

  32. aaww, congrats on pickles arrival. I'm sure he'll be bringing lots of smiles and wonderful kisses with him (even if a little sloppy) :) The Quiet Man w/ Maureen OHara & John Wayne has a wonderful scene with a sudden passionate kiss in an old church yard when a huge storm starts afterwards as if to warn them about kissing in a church yard when just starting to court. Great scene in an old but fabulous movie.

  33. Teresa,
I agree that the It's A Wonderful Life kiss is one of the greats. My favorite thing about it is that is a kiss that comes on the tail end of warring emotions. Those kisses have always been my favorite for the fact that the two people literally can't resist kissing each other regardless of everything that has happened.

One of my other favorite kisses like that would have to be the kiss at the end of Where the Heart Is where the two main characters reunite after being separated by pride and silly assumptions.

Congratulations on the new family member. :)

  34. My favorite "All Time" romance/kiss is Scarlett and Rhett in Gone With The Wind. I particularly like the scene where he carries her up the steps!! (I understand that Clark Gable had to shoot and re-shoot that scene many times! UGH!!! poor man)
Best wishes with the new book!!

Can't wait for THE PLEASURE OF YOUR KISS!!

Off the top of my head I would go with the kiss in the rain in The Notebook but also (same actress, Rachel McAdams) the kiss near the end of Wedding Crashers with Owen Wilson in the church. :)

  37. Interesting to hear how you think about writing about kisses... I know there's a problem with a book when I start reading about a kiss and am caught up more in the logistics of what's being described rather than the 'heat' of the moment!

  40. Hi Teresa! Great to see you here at The Dish! :)

One of my favorite movie kisses was in Clueless when Josh and Cher kiss at the top of the steps after he admits he thinks she;s beautiful. So sweet and cute.

My favorite TV kiss is Josh and Donna on The West Wing. She barges into his hotel room, excited about election poll results, and they get caught up in the heat of the moment with the great Dizzy Gillespie song Bang Bang playing in the background. Perfect! There was just something about the way he he gently cupped her face with his hands as they were about to kiss. ::Sigh:: It took 7 seasons for them to get together and it was worth it!
Hmmm I think I may have a thing for fictional characters named Josh? lol

  41. I love all the scenes mentioned in the post and in the comments but I have to say; hands down favorite is the first kiss scene in Meet Joe Black. Brad Pitt plays Death experiencing life for the first time falls in love with Clair Forlains character. The first kiss is that hesitant touch of lips, a learning kiss that is scorching intense yet so innocent. I get goose bumps every time. If you haven’t seen it I strongly suggest YouTubing that one.

  42. This isn't from a movie, but Once Upon A Time the TV series. Emma's last kiss with the sheriff still is playing on my mind. A first kiss as well as a last is memorable. Emma deserves to find another man who will make her happy.

  43. My favorite movie "kiss" never ended in a kiss at all. It's a scene between Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney in "The Wedding Date".

    ReplyDelete
  44. I actually love the "almost" kiss between Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser in The Mummy. It's such a cheesy movie, she's such an uptight priss, and he's soo interested in her, only to be disappointed when she passes out. So cute!

  45. Well I know there are a great deal of hot steamy romantic movie kisses out there because of all the gorgeous leading men today, but my mind keeps going back to Clark Gabe and Vivien Leigh in Gone With The Wind! 'Ol Rhett sure did make kissing look fun, lol! I have way too many current leading men and movie kisses to list them all here, but suffice it to say, there are a lot of romantic kisses in the movies! Teresa, enjoy your new pet and friend Pickles, very lucky lil dog to have you and Michael as parents! Can't wait to see you at your next signing event! Love you both and Merry Christmas!

  46. So glad I'm not the only one who thought of the Spider-man kiss! Last of the Mohicans is my other favorite. Viggo & Maria's first kiss that tumbles them onto the stairs in History of Violence is a scorcher. My sister about burned the image into my screen from rewinding & pausing!

For Christmas I tend to prefer the action movies with exploding Christmas lights: Long Kiss Good Night, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard; with White Christmas being the lone exception.

  48. Such a cutie.

I don't really have a favorite movie or TV kiss. They all look too fake. Also, I don't watch much TV or go to movies very much anymore. I prefer to let my imagination run wild with a book. That way it's always perfect. :)

  55. I can't wait to read this book. Looks amazing!!

I love the kiss at the end of French Kiss when they're in the vineard and he grabs her close, fists clenching her dress and pulling her even further into him. *sigh* The kiss in Gone with the Wind just before he leaves after rescuing Scarlett, Prissy, Melanie and her baby from Atlanta is my favorite in that movie. And yes, the kiss at the pitcher's mound at the end of Never Been Kissed. But then, those first kiss kisses in every movie tend to be the BEST! :)

  72. First of all, I would like to congratulate on the welcome home of Pickles.

Teresa, I am a big fan and am looking forward to reading THE PLEASURE OF YOUR KISS.

The main kisses I like were the ones that Rhett gave Scarlet in Gone With the Wind. He had me smoldering for more. Of course I also liked the kisses in It's A Wonderful Life, The Last of the Mohicans, Sleepless in Seattle, and Ever After. There are more, but I can't think of them right now.

And I saw The Quiet Man mentioned too. I love that movie and I'll watch it whenever I can, so that's another favorite kiss of mine as well.

  77. The first kiss for Bella and Edward in Twilight has a special kick to it for me. You know he could easily kill her if he's not careful and then she looses control in the kiss. The book and the movie give it justice.

  78. I love movies mainly romance and horror, but my all time fav is Gone with the Wind. I feel in love with that movie when I was a kid and can still watch it over and over again. Another is Jezebel with Betty Davis.
I also love Grease, A Philadelphia Story, and The Sound of Music.
More up-to-date is of course Pretty Woman, Never Been Kissed, The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, Love Actually, and last but not least Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Believe me, there is definitely more, but that would take too long and too much time. :)
