THE BACHELOR meets MISS CONGENIALITY: When an Army vet who's looking for love begins falling for the date planner of the reality dating program he's set to star on, the show's producers trick the jaded staffer into posing as a contestant for one night to save the show's tarnished reputation. To keep her job, she needs this season's star to find love. He needs her to give him her heart to get his happy ending. What can go wrong when she gets a rose? Then another?
PJ's Thoughts:
Looking for a fast, fun, feel-good, romp to kick off your 2022 romance reading? Have I got a book for you! Tracy Brody, one of my go-to authors for intense, action-packed, military romantic suspense novels shows off a different side of her creativity with this gem of a story that kept me grinning, and frequently laughing out loud, from beginning to end.
Nate never set out to be the Bachelor - he has his meddling sisters to thank for that - but the fact is, he really wants to find love and the money the show offers him will allow him to start his own business. He's one of the good ones: honorable, kind, there for the right reasons...and falling for someone who is not one of the women cast on the show for him to date.
After years of working behind the scenes, CJ a/k/a Cecilia finally has her shot at achieving her dream of becoming a screenwriter. All she has to do is make sure this season of the reality show she works on goes smoothly and Nate finds the woman of his dreams. That woman was never supposed to be her!
Oh my gosh, I loved these two so much! Brody created two characters I couldn't help but cheer for. They're fun, relatable, good people with layers that give them depth, thrown into a situation somewhat out of their control that offers up a plethora of opportunities for humor, growth, and emotional awakening. I couldn't get enough of them.
If you're a fan of The Bachelor reality television show (I admit it, I'm addicted), you already know that they're a fertile playground for drama, humor, angst, and tears - so many tears - as contestants vie for one-on-one time with that season's bachelor, attempt to sabotage group dates, shamelessly hog camera time, and, oh yeah, hope to find their forever love. Brody incorporates all of that and more into her fictional reality series with impeccable comedic timing, over-the-top secondary characters, heart-tugging emotion, razor-sharp wit, sigh-worthy declarations, awkward situations, and did I mention humor? So delicious. So addictive. So much fun.
Whether you're a fan of The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise or not, Tracy Brody's Faking it with the Bachelor is a fast, fun, feel-good ride worth taking. I highly recommend it.
