Spotlight and Giveaway - - Much Ado About Barbecue

Much Ado About Barbecue
by Sally Kilpatrick
Publisher: NYLA
Release Date: September 2, 2021

Return to Ellery, Tennessee for Sally Kilpatrick’s saucy new novel about two warring barbecue houses.

Emma Sutton promised herself three things: she would never move back to Ellery, never work in the family barbecue restaurant, and never have anything to do with Ben Cates ever again. Losing her job and her home might’ve forced her to break the first two, but she’s determined to keep the third.

Unlike Emma, Ben Cates has made peace with his hometown. He wants nothing more than to make his restaurant something his father couldn’t: a success. But between his hellraising little sister and Emma Sutton’s return to Ellery, his dream could easily be snatched away.

Emma and Ben might’ve made each other’s childhood a living hell with their endless pranks, but the only way to finally get rid of the other is to win the coveted contract for Ellery’s annual barbecue festival. Seems easy enough—until attraction ignites like a charcoal flame, and happiness seeps in like a surprising new flavor.

Can they find the courage to forgive bitter past mistakes and let trust into the mix, or will devastating secrets burn everything down again?

PJ says:

If you enjoy sassy, Southern humor, heart-tugging emotion, drool-worthy food, and an enemies-to-lovers romance between two characters with a complicated past (Boy howdy, is it ever complicated!), you'll want to pick up a copy of Sally Kilpatrick's next novel: Much Ado About Barbecue. It's filled with all the snappy banter, quirky characters, complex emotions, and down-home wisdom you could ask for. Plus, barbecue, baked beans, mac and cheese, and more. The descriptions of the food are so vividly depicted, I swear I could smell the pork smoking. Fair warning: reading this book will make you hungry!

Kilpatrick's books all have a place on my keeper shelf where I can turn to them when I'm in need of a feel-good story that lifts my spirits.  Her characters tickle my funny bone, touch my heart, and are as authentically Southern as the author herself.

Much Ado About Barbecue releases September 2. It will be available in print but is currently available for preorder only in e-book format at the following locations:

Readers, Ben and Emma have opposing opinions on barbecue, how it should be cooked, and how it should be served. So tell me...

What kind of barbecue do you enjoy? Pork, beef, chicken, ribs? All of the above?

Do you like sauce with your barbecue? What kind?

For most people, the meat is the star, but for others it's all about the sides. What's your favorite side dish to accompany your barbecue?

Sally Kilpatrick has generously offered two giveaways today.

  1. This comment has been removed by the author.

  2. I love all kinds of Barbecue: pork (ribs) and chicken would be my first picks.

I like a sweet sauce . I usually buy original Sweet Baby Rays.

    Side- German potato salad

Thanks PJ and Sally. I have not read Sally's books yet.

    1. Ha! I love Sweet Baby Ray's. My hero has a had time with sauce, and that's what he uses in his restaurant.

  3. I love pork ribs, ckn and beef barbeque as well as burgers and dogs. Potato salad is my favorite side; I have not read any of Sally's books. And Pls don't count me in for the arc book if possible, would love the print one. TY.

  4. I like all kinds of BBQ. If it can be grilled, BBQ it! On pulled pork, I like the East North Carolina vinegar based bbq sauce. All others, I like a good, thick, tomato based sauce.

  5. WELL!!!! I live in Austin TX. One of the most famous bar-b-cue restaurants in the country is here. Up until recently, I did not know that the sauce can be different in different parts of the country. Here the sauce at most places is not as sweet as what you find east of here.

I like turkey, chicken, beef, pork and sausage - I am an equal opportunity glutton. Sides - potato salad, slaw, beans, light bread and then banana pudding for dessert. Of course with all that, I have to get a doggie container to take the banana pudding home.

You have made my mouth water just talking to me about this book.

And another new to me author too...thank you.

Hope everyone is well and safe and happy.

  6. I enjoy all the different meats for BBQ. As for sauce, it depends on my mood, the sauce itself, and the meaat I'm eating -- but most ofo the time, yes I do. As for the sides? Bring 'em all on! LOL I honestly do not have a favorite!

  7. I love barbecue (beef or chicken)

I live in Michigan so Sweet Baby Ray's!!! My all time fave though is Diana Barbecue sauce from Canada :)

I love side dishes and my fave is probably potato salad or Macaroni salad ❤

I love this series so much and I am so excited to read this book!

  8. As a Texas Girl, it’s all about the Brisket !!! Got have some mac n’ cheese on the side :-)

  9. love a pulled pork barbecue sandwich with a sweet & thick sauce, plus coleslaw, and bread & butter pickles on the side.

  10. Pork bbq with a honey mustard bbq sauce and a side of potato salad

  11. I am looking forward to returning to Ellery, plus the addition of bar-b-que! The old lady is ready to read.

  12. We love barbecue of any kind. Beef tends to dry out a bit so ribs, pulled or chopped pork pork, chicken, and sausage are preferred. Our daughter and her husband have a food truck and specialize in barbecue. They use a rub and chop the pork rather than pull it. They also do not add sauce. She makes her own sauce and has three flavors so you can add what and as much as you want. I like her sweet sauce. For a change of pace we try other sauces and like the mustard based one too. She makes good beans and has coleslaw. I like Mac and cheese and slaw with my barbecue. At home we tend to fix ribs and chicken. We had some really good barbecue in Texas years ago and bought a case of their rub (Bodacious BBQ). We are almost out and need to get some more.

  13. I love barbecued ribs and smoked sausages with barbecue sauce on them! Got to have potato salad and baked beans. I usually use Kraft hickory smoke flavor - but I love Budweiser barbecue sauce but it's hard to find in my area! This is a new to me author which I love finding. Her books sound right up my alley. Thanks for the chance to win.

  14. My favorite is pulled pork. I have a crcokpot recipe a co-worker gave me over 30 years ago that is a favorite. I like Sauer's or Stubbs BBQ sauce, and some slaw, on my sandwich.
