It's my birthday and I'll eat cake if I want to! Or maybe not.
My birthday is growing closer and that means birthday treats. I love to bake but I decided this year that I'd rather let someone else do the work while I reaped the sweet rewards of their labor so I took myself off to my favorite local bakery this lovely Saturday morning to check out their array of gluten-free goodies. I managed to arrive during a lull in customer traffic, giving me time to leisurely browse the offerings with the guidance of one of their bakers. They had gluten-free cupcakes but I was after something with a little more glamour. I am approaching a new decade after all. Might as well celebrate in style, right?
A few French Macarons followed me home because, let's face it, I cannot resist a Macaron. First into the box was the Salted Caramel Macaron because I also cannot resist anything Salted Caramel. Next in was the Butterfinger Macaron. One of my favorite candies in one of my favorite cookies? Yes, please!
Next in were two gluten-free breakfast cookies. I've had these before and, let me tell you, that are glorious! Moist, chewy, and with just the right amount of sweetness. I'll be savoring one of those delicious treats as soon as the coffee finishes brewing.
Last into the box was the pièce de résistance, a Salted Caramel Mousse Dome. Oh. My. Glorious. Goodness. Is it ridiculous to be this excited about a dessert? I don't care if it is. I'm going to eat it as slowly as I can, savoring each delicious bite. I may even spread it out over the entire weekend. ;-)
So, tell me. What's your favorite birthday treat? Cake? Pie? Something else?
What's your go-to flavor? Do you eat your treat alone or is ice cream a must?

Yummy! I love most anything with dark chocolate, but also love Linzer Tarts. Enjoy your Birthday month treats!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm... Linzer tarts. :)
DeleteI love chocolate, especially dark chocolate. Those desserts look yummy. TY for sharing and for chance to win a pack of books. Enjoy your weekend everyone.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful weekend too!
DeleteI loooove Pumpkin 🎃 pie with cool whip. Hubs just wants a bite and kids don’t like it so I just bring the pie and the tub of cool whip and a fork to the couch. 😂😂 no plate needed. My fav cake is Oma’s Black Forest Cake. She passed away so now my sister and I make it for bdays & special occasions. My mother makes an amazing cheesecake and 7up cake. To die for!
ReplyDeleteI'm a one-slice with Cool Whip girl but I have a family member like you who would be happy to take the entire pie plus a full tub of CW to the couch.
DeleteI haven't had a Black Forest Cake in years. They are so delicious.
My birthday treat is chocolate angel food cake with chocolate whipped cream frosting.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever had a chocolate angel food cake.
DeleteYum! Those all look and sound delicious — I’ve never come across a Butterfinger Macaron before!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite birthday treat is french fruit tart.
Happy Birthday PJ! I'm eating breakfast and your post made me hungry for sweet things not the savory I'm eating. Enjoy your treats!
ReplyDeleteThe past few years we've celebrated my daughter's and my birthday on the same day. We've gotten into the habit of having 2 cakes. One devil's food (with chocolate icing of course) and one angel's food - served with whipped cream and an assortment of berries. We decided that we shouldn't have to choose between 2 of our favorites. Oh and the addition of berries makes it healthy, right?a
Writing the post made me hungry too, Glenda! lol
DeleteAnd I totally agree with the berries = healthy statement. ;-)
Happy Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteI like chocolate cake with chocolate icing and custard in the middle.
Thank you, Elaine! I'll take custard in the middle of pretty much anything. Make it lemon custard and I'm even happier!
DeleteRed velvet or chocolate cake
ReplyDeleteEqually good choices!
DeleteI love cheesecake. Another favorite is ice cream.
ReplyDeleteI also love cheesecake. I gave serious consideration to ordering a cheesecake from Juniors (NYC) for my birthday but decided to shop local instead.
DeleteI always have cherry chip cake with cherry frosting
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever had a cherry chip cake. I had to look it up to see what it was. Looks yummy!
DeleteMy all time favorite is white almond cake. It reminds me of the cakes they always had at wedding receptions when I was young. It was rare back in the old days to have anything else lol. And I don't need ice cream unless I'm having warm cheery pie lol.
ReplyDeleteOh PJ!! Happy Birthday!! I want a butterfinger macaron!! Butterfinger is my favorite candy bar!! 🍫
ReplyDeleteOh, all of your treats sound mouthwateringly good! My favorite birthday indulgence is a slice of flourless chocolate cake on a plate drizzled with raspberry sauce and a finger of slightly sweetened whipped cream on the side. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you are having a birthday blast!!! For my birthday treat, I like the traditional, fully decorated birthday cake. White cake, white icing--lots and lots of pretty icing flowers. A very cold glass of milk to wash it down.
ReplyDeleteLove salted caramel cupcakes from my local bakery.
ReplyDeletedenise
I think it is terrific that you are enjoying your build up to your birthday.
ReplyDeleteI like almost any kind dessert.
Hope everyone is well and safe and happy.
Happy birthday PJ. Yummy pictures
ReplyDeleteMine is chocolate. It can have some fruits but otherwise it has to be overwhelmingly chocolate, if it's dark chocolate even better!
ReplyDeleteI love macarons but with clasic flavors most, or basted on fruits :)
Happy birthday- almost :D
I usually try to have a piece of a decadent double chocolate cake from a local German restaurant. Oh my...it's the stuff of dreams! But, in a pinch anything chocolate will do!!! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I hope that you did savor your treat. I enjoy Lemon Cake with a soft creme icing. No ice cream necessary.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your celebration and the delectable treats. Yummy. I would love to indulge in a chocolate marble cake. So moist and irresistible alongside a chocolate ripple ice cream.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, PJ! I rarely turn down a good fruit cobbler with a scoop of ice cream.
ReplyDeleteOh my!! Your treats look absolutely devine!! I love chocolate in any shape or form.
ReplyDeleteI had some strawberries dip in chocolate I loved them,
ReplyDeletePenney
I love my desserts. Can be cake, especially chocolate, fruit pies, choc cream, banana cream pies, ice cream. And I love real whipped cream on many desserts.
ReplyDeleteI go for the chocolate eclair. I cannot make them, but I sure can eat em.
ReplyDeleteFor the last few years this has been my go to treat for my birthday. Fudge brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, caramel, whipped cream nuts and cherries. It is so amazing. Although your treats are making me hungry for something sweet.
ReplyDeleteYou hit my favorite at the beginning, salted caramel. That Salted Caramel Mousse Dome sounds delicious. I would likely keep that one to myself. I need to find your bakery. I don't have any one favorite birthday treat. It usually depends what kind of a mood I am in. I love pies, especially fruit pies, and a la mode works well with those. Our daughter picks up giant eclairs at a bakery outside of Asheville and we have had those for a birthday. So often goodies in bakeries look so good but are a disappointment. If I am feeling energetic, I'll make a cheesecake. I love those.
ReplyDeleteRats. Now I am hungry for sweets. I hope you enjoy those wonderful goodies you got at your bakery. What are you going to have for your birthday celebration?
Ooh, your treats looks absolutely delish! The family gets me a Cookies N' Cream Cake for my birthday although I'm not opposed to an ice cream cake!
ReplyDeleteI love carrot cake and always request this for my birthday. That salted caramel mousse dome sounds good to me. I love chocolate mousse. There was a restaurant that made chocolate mousse with stout. It was so good. Sadly, that restaurant is no longer there. bluedawn95864 at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteCake and ice cream!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday
I have a ton of allergies... but when I can -- I love a homemade cheesecake for my birthday! So rich, usually ice cream isn't necessary!
