Sinful in Satin
by Madeline Hunter

When famed London courtesan Alessandra Northrope passes away, her daughter Celia Pennifold inherits little more than a hopelessly contaminated reputation, a house in a middle class neighborhood, and an education that prepared her to take her mother’s place the way Alessandra intended. Celia hopes to make her own life on her own terms, however, and moves into the house only to discover one more legacy—an enigmatic, handsome tenant who knows her mother’s plans for her future rather too well. It does not help that Jonathan Albrighton’s mere presence creates delicious excitements that remind her of the thrilling pleasure that Alessandra taught her to arouse in others and enjoy herself. When new claims on her mother’s estate threaten her hold on the property, she is forced to fulfill her deathbed promise to Alessandra—to give fair consideration to the future for which she was trained. Unfortunately, she discovers that the only man with whom she really wants to share the secrets of her erotic education is unsuitable for a role in any future she might claim.

Jonathan thinks he is on a simple mission to discover whether Celia’s mother left accounts of her lovers that might embarrass important men. Instead he finds himself embroiled in a mystery full of dangerous betrayals and secrets, old and new, that touch on his life as well as Celia’s. The chamber that he leases in Celia’s home becomes convenient for protecting her, but their proximity only fuels his desire to seduce the radiant, beautiful woman she has become. With his first touch and stolen kiss, he decides that she will have no lover except him, whether she considers him suitable or not.

It's hard to be a badass assassin when a giant is beating the crap out of you. Luckily, I never let pride get in the way of my work. My current mission is personal: annihilate Mab Monroe, the Fire elemental who murdered my family. Which means protecting my identity, even if I have to conceal my powerful Stone and Ice magic when I need it most. To the public, I'm Gin Blanco, owner of Ashland's best barbecue joint. To my friends, I'm the Spider, retired assassin. I still do favors on the side. Like ridding a vampire friend of her oversized stalker—Mab's right-hand goon who almost got me dead with his massive fists. At least irresistible Owen Grayson is on my side. The man knows too much about me, but I'll take my chances. Then there's Detective Bria Coolidge, one of Ashland's finest. Until recently, I thought my baby sister was dead. She probably thinks the same about me. Little does she know, I'm a cold-blooded killer . . . who is about to save her life. (Pocket)

  8. I am looking forward to Elizabeth Boyle's Mad About a Duke. I read Jack and Miranda's story and enjoyed it, and I was a bit intrigued by big brother, so it'll be good to perhaps catch up with them and read James' story! Jeannie Lin's Butterfly Swords looks interesting as well.

And as a member of Eloisa and JQ's BB, I am of course looking forward to Courtney Milan and Tiffany Clare's books! :)

Where am I going to find the time to read all these books!!!???? lol

  15. I've already read Courtney Milan's Trial by Desire, and nine of the others on your list are also on my TBB list. September 28 is really going to be a Super Tuesday in Romancelandia. I have ten books on my list for that day alone. Tiffany Clare's debut novel, The Surrender of a Lady is at the top. Two 9-28 releases not on your list that I’ve read and enjoyed are Debbie Macomber's Call Me Mrs.Miracle and the anthology Bespelling Jane that includes a paranormal by Mary Balogh, something I never expected to see.

October 5 is also starred on my book calendar because that’s the day both Anne Gracie’s The Accidental Wedding and Kate Moore’s To Save the Devil hit bookstores, and I can’t wait to read them. I’m also excited that a reissue of one of my favorite traditional Regencies, Jo Beverley’s Emily and the Dark Angel will be released that day. Julia London’s The Year of Living Scandalously (Oct. 19) is another book I’m eagerly awaiting.

There are also some great categories being releases this month. I always look for Trish Milburn’s, Christie Ridgway’s and Karen Templeton’s books, and they all have new releases. Also, I’m loving Molly O’Keefe’s O’Neills. The third in that series, The Scandal and Carter O’Neill, will be out in October as well.

Can you tell I’m really thrilled about October reads? I think romance readers are getting lots of treats well before Halloween arrives, :)

  18. I'm looking forward to all of the books on this list. I've already read advanced copies of three of them - The Surrender of a Lady, The Accidental Wedding and A Hellion in Her Bed - and they're terrific.

I just finished writing my review of Tiffany Clare's The Surrender of a Lady (watch for the review on 9/19 and my interview with the author on 9/22) and spent almost four hours editing and re-writing it before it was short enough for the blog. There were so many things that I loved about this book that the first draft of the review was THREE pages long!

  19. Wow, there are a lot great historicals coming out. I'm really excited about Emma Wildes' new release. I've read a couple of her books and I'm now a big fan of hers.
